Řídký lies in the Litomyšl Basin, a gently rolling hilly landscape, above the valley of the Loučná. The river and the local stream should be distinguished when describing the area: the Loučná flows through a shallow valley about 700 metres southwest of Řídký and outside the municipality’s cadastral area. By contrast, the Končinský potok is part of Řídký’s local water network. The river valley and the local water network are therefore two distinct geographical reference points.
Landscape Between the Hills and the River Valley
The area is wooded along the northwestern municipal boundary by the Švábenice stream; southwest of the railway, there are permanently green areas and meadows. The entire municipality lies within a CHOPAV groundwater protection area. The regional biocorridor RBK.846 “Aronka–Nedošínský háj” also runs along the southern municipal boundary. These features differ in scale: the protected area covers the whole municipality, while the biocorridor follows its southern boundary. Forests and meadows, meanwhile, characterise specific areas in other directions.
Local History and Settlement Pattern
Řídký was founded in 1689 as a small settlement along a historic road. The first building in Řídký was a forester’s lodge; later, the well-known historic inn “Pod Číhadly” was established. The founding, the first building and the later inn are distinct historical reference points. The founding year belongs to the settlement, while the inn marks a later period.
Řídký also has a continuous linear settlement pattern, designated as an urban planning value. A linear settlement pattern describes the connected form of the village as a whole, drawing attention to more than just a single building. By contrast, the cross next to the municipal office is a single local feature, designated as a cultural and architectural value. This allows the form of the settlement and the individual cross to be considered at different scales.
The public area around the municipal office includes a children’s playground and an open pavilion. If you are planning a trip with children, the playground is a specific public amenity; the pavilion is another feature of the same area.
Getting There and Getting Around
Road I/35 runs through Řídký and connects Hradec Králové, Litomyšl and Mohelnice. There is also a bus stop and a railway stop in the village. The road connection and the bus and railway stops are different points to consider when planning your journey. If you are planning a specific connection or departure time, check the current timetable.
Cycling is different: there are no dedicated cycle paths in Řídký, and no designated cycle routes pass through the municipal area. The first point concerns cycle paths in the village; the second concerns the routes of designated cycle routes through the municipality. If cycling is an important part of your travel plans, take both limitations into account and check your specific route in advance.
