Komárov combines a striking viewpoint with trails that bring nature and local history together. From Komárovský kopec, the view stretches across Haná, Nízký Jeseník and the Zábřežská vrchovina; in the village square, the chapel, linden tree and historic stone cross form the focal point. There are different options to choose from when planning your visit: a break with panoramic views, an easy children’s trail or a longer bike ride with steep sections.

Views and a break at Komárovský kopec

There is a cross dating from 1833 on Komárovský kopec. From here, views open up across three landscape regions: Haná, Nízký Jeseník and the Zábřežská vrchovina. A covered gazebo with benches and a table offers a place to rest during walks and outings. An information board and a summit register are nearby. This makes it possible to combine the views with a rest at this destination.

A children’s trail with a changing theme

The Komárovská stezka pro děti is an easy trail aimed mainly at families with children. Its theme changes throughout the year to reflect the seasons. Five stations with interchangeable panels invite visitors to learn about nature, think and enjoy some gentle exercise. The route leads from the seniors’ home through a new cherry-tree avenue to a fire pit with seating beneath a small group of trees, continues alongside a biocorridor and ends at the chapel. The cherry-tree avenue, rest area and biocorridor give the walk several distinct sections before it finishes at a place steeped in history.

The children’s playground on the grounds of Domov seniorů Komárov is open to the public. As access rules may change, it is best to check them before your visit.

Chapel, village square and history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built at the end of the 19th century along the route that the people of Komárov used to reach the church in Mladějovice. After a long period of disuse, it was reconsecrated in 2005. In the village square, the chapel, a linden tree and the historic stone cross from 1823 together form the focal point. This cross should not be confused with the cross on Komárovský kopec, which was erected ten years later, in 1833.

The village’s history can also be placed in context: Komárov was founded during one of the final phases of settlement in the Šternberk area, at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The first explicit written mention of the village dates from 1412/1413. The village’s founding and the later written record are two distinct historical reference points.

Hiking and local festivals

Komárovský výšlap is a recurring spring hiking event. The second edition took place in 2025 and the third in 2026. The 2026 event also included a shorter group walk around the village. Dates and programmes may change from year to year, so check the details for your planned visit.

Komárovské hody is a traditional local festival. The 2025 edition was the 20th, and the programme may vary from one edition to another. If you want to plan your trip around one of the festivals, take the specific event dates into account.

A longer option for experienced cyclists

The Do hlubin věků cycling route is 30 kilometres long and runs from Mladějovice through Komárov to Řídeč. Its profile combines a flat section at first with a steep climb and a long, steep descent. The route follows paved roads and unpaved forest tracks and is suitable for experienced cyclists. So when choosing between a walk and a bike ride, it is not just the distance that matters: the changing elevation profile is another important difference.

Plan for the railway and hiking trails

A railway station on the line to Šumperk and Olomouc lies between Komárov and Mladějovice, about 500 metres from Komárov. Check current train services before setting out. The yellow- and blue-marked hiking trails run together from Mladějovice railway station towards Komárov and Řídeč. As trail conditions should be checked locally, be sure to take them into account when planning your visit.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Komárov, first decide what you want to focus on during your outing: the viewpoint and children’s trail are suited to walks, while the cycling route is a longer ride. If you are planning to visit around Komárovský výšlap or Komárovské hody, it is also a good idea to check the relevant dates before booking.
