Blatec is suited to a stay where architectural history, the shape of the old village, cycling connections and wine events can be explored as distinct highlights. The local history is especially tangible at the Chapel of St. Margaret and in the rectangular historic village layout; Cycle Route 6061 and the Moravian Trail offer a different focus. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Blatec, you can first decide whether culture, cycling or attending an event should shape your stay. For practical planning, bus timetables and specific event dates are also relevant.

Chapel and Village History

The Chapel of St. Margaret is a single-nave, plastered masonry building with a hipped roof covered with beaver-tail tiles. The architectural term “single-nave” describes a layout with one main nave, making the building’s form easy to understand even without in-depth architectural knowledge. A prismatic tower with a pyramidal roof rises through the west façade. This means that two different roof forms can be distinguished: the chapel’s hipped roof and the tower’s pyramidal roof. The chapel was first mentioned in 1804; it is probably older. The year provides a definite historical reference point, while its greater age remains a supposition.

The original village layout offers a second clue: the village was arranged around a rectangular square, with two exits leading east and west. This historic layout is still visible in aerial photographs. Blatec can therefore be explored not only through individual buildings, but also through its spatial arrangement. Blatecký mlýn is across the Morava, on the Morávka millrace, and was built in 1773. The statue of St. Linhart stands just beyond Blatec on the left-hand side of the road towards Újezdec. Check the current conditions at the roadside in person when visiting the statue.

Landscape and Cycling Connections

An east-west orientation helps when exploring the landscape: the Morava lies east of Blatec, the Blata to the west; the Romza stream also flows through the village. The Morava–Chropyňský luh Natura 2000 site lies along the Morava within the landscape around Blatec. The waterways and the name of the protected area provide different points of reference: the rivers describe the location, while Morava–Chropyňský luh identifies a specific Natura 2000 site.

Blatec lies on Cycle Route 6061 and Route 4, the Moravian Trail. Both routes run along cycle lanes or local farm tracks. This information about their surfaces helps show that the routes do not all follow the same type of path; check conditions before setting out.

Getting There and Cycling

For 2024, four bus services between Olomouc and Tovačov are listed, running through Blatec in both directions. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the current timetable.

Blatec also played a role in the “Královstvím na kole” cycling event. More than 100 cyclists took part in one edition; another edition started in Blatec, at the football pitch. The two events combine a larger number of participants with a specific starting point in the village, but do not indicate a future event date.

Wine Events with Different Highlights

The Blatecké vinobraní can be distinguished by the dates of its second and third editions. The second edition took place on 14 September 2024 in the hall of the municipal building. Twelve wines from the cellars of Čevelovice were served there, accompanied by cimbalom music. In 2025, the festival reached its third edition. More than ten selected varieties of wine were served at this edition, with individual wines and their stories explained. The editions have different highlights: in 2024, the focus was on origin and music; in 2025, on the selections presented with commentary. If you would like to include the vinobraní in your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant edition.
