If you would like to combine culture and landscape during a short stay, Dlouhá Loučka offers several points of interest: the St. Bartholomew’s church complex, the history of the castle, museum collections and diverse habitats. Parts of the municipality extend into Sovinecko Nature Park. When planning your stay, you can decide whether architectural history, historical objects or nature should be your main focus.
Church Complex and Castle History
The St. Bartholomew’s church complex has a core dating from the 15th century and was altered later. Its notable details include 19th-century sepulchral sculptures. There is also a stone cross on the grounds: it was moved there from its former location at the bridge over the Oslava. Its relocation connects two specific places in local history: the church complex and its former site by the river.
Dlouhá Loučka Castle was built as a Baroque castle in 1708–1709. It served as the summer residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and, during the Napoleonic Wars, as a military hospital with 600 beds. These different uses give the castle’s history several facets: alongside its Baroque construction, it served as a summer residence, while the number of hospital beds conveys the scale of its historical wartime use. A monument to the victims of the Napoleonic Wars stands on the slope below Křivá in Dlouhá Loučka.
Museums and Historical Traces
The Království historických kočárků (Kingdom of Historical Prams) is located at Plinkout 41, Dlouhá Loučka 783 86. The municipal listing, last updated on 16 January 2024, describes an extensive collection of historical prams and dolls’ prams dating from 1860 to 1989; collection information may change. On Saturdays, the museum is open from 10:00 to 17:00; visits on other days are possible by prior telephone arrangement. The municipal opening information was last updated on 16 January 2024. Please check the times before your visit.
A museum in the building of the second Loučský Castle focuses on other historical traces; the building also houses the municipal office today. The museum displays salvaged murals left on the walls of the local ruined castle by French officers held prisoner there during the Second World War. It also exhibits paintings made by French officers in Dlouhá Loučka, including a unique painted plan of the entire castle. Another object with its own story lies in front of a local shop: a quartz millstone that originally stood in the castle park. Experts believe it was used to grind silver ore before smelting.
Castle Park and Natural Areas
Dlouhá Loučka Castle Park lies at the eastern end of the village. It is a landscaped park enclosed by a perimeter wall. It has also served as an event venue: the 23rd Pochod přírodním parkem Sovinecko (Sovinecko Nature Park Hike) started and finished there on 9 May 2026. Check the organiser’s information for dates of the next edition.
The natural areas span several cadastral areas: Dolní Dlouhá Loučka, Horní Dlouhá Loučka, Křivá and Plinkout partially extend into Sovinecko Nature Park. Parts of Horní Dlouhá Loučka and Křivá also extend into the Sovinec European Site. Habitats in Dlouhá Loučka include beech and beech-fir forests, riparian vegetation, rocks, standing water and flowing waters in the trout zone. This diversity adds an ecological perspective to the area’s history: in addition to forests, the described habitats include waters, rocks and riverbanks.
