Loučany lies in the gently rolling plain of Haná and in the floodplain of the Šumice stream. The stream flows through the built-up part of the village; its course has been partially regulated and is lined with riparian and accompanying greenery. The landscape of the village can therefore be understood in terms of both the plain and the stream. Loučany offers specific points of interest in its culture, village character and natural surroundings to help you choose it as a destination.
Chapel, monument and village centre
The Chapel of St Florian and St Isidore is Loučany’s defining landmark and dates from 1724. Its date provides a specific historical point of reference in the village landscape. Another memorial stands on the road to Těšetice: a stone column bearing a statue of St Florian, dating from 1818. It is listed as an immovable cultural monument. The chapel and the column represent two different forms of architectural heritage: a named building and a monument in the form of a stone column.
The village centre also has an archaeological dimension: it is an area where finds have been documented or are reasonably expected. This extends the cultural theme beyond the named buildings. Together, the chapel, column and village centre offer different ways to explore the history of Loučany, without requiring a single focal point for your visit.
Cultural centre and events
The large hall with a stage in the Loučany Cultural Centre is now about 100 years old. It is another cultural venue that complements the chapel and stone column. Events held at the Loučany Cultural Centre include balls, children’s carnivals, concerts, Christmas events and performances by schoolchildren. If you would like to plan your trip around a particular event, check its date in advance, as individual events may change.
The Šumice and the biotope
On the right bank of the Šumice, near the Otruba farmstead, lies a wetland and aquatic biotope that forms a functional part of the “Haná” biocentre. It includes pools, tree and shrub plantings, and reed beds. The stream through the built-up village and the biotope on the right bank are different landscape aspects of the Šumice: here, the course is shaped by regulation and riverside greenery, while there, wetlands and vegetation shape the habitat.
Cycle route and paved path
Loučany lies on cycle route 6025, which connects Olomouc, Náměšť na Hané and Bouzov. Check the route number and course before your trip. The path between Loučany and Těšetice is asphalted or has a sprayed bitumen surface on some sections, and is paved throughout. This gives you two specific details for planning: the cycle route places Loučany on a connection between towns, while the description of the path to Těšetice concerns its surface. Depending on whether you want to establish destinations or the surface of a path, one of these details will be more relevant.
