Mošnov brings together the history of a municipality on both banks of the Lubina, a neoclassical church, memorial sites and signposted cycling routes. This offers a range of options for your trip: local history and architecture, monuments or a cycling tour. If you are looking for a hotel in Mošnov, you can decide in advance which of these aspects of the town you would like to shape your trip.

History between two riverbanks

Mošnov was first mentioned in written records in 1367. The settlement developed on the right bank of the Lubina; Mošnovec grew on the left bank. The river therefore provides a concrete geographical key to the town’s early history. Later, the settlement of Engeswald, founded by German colonists, merged with Mošnov and Mošnovec to form one municipality. This brings together two distinct historical reference points: 1367 marks the first written mention of Mošnov, while the later merger explains how several settlements became one municipality.

Church and memorial sites

The Church of St. Margaret is a masonry, single-nave church. Its prismatic tower projects from the façade. Built in 1807, it is considered a work of neoclassical religious architecture of regional significance. Its design and art-historical classification complement one another, but describe different aspects of the building. A World War II memorial at the intersection in front of the airport in Mošnov commemorates the landing of the 1st Czechoslovak Mixed Air Division in the Soviet Union on 10 May 1945. A memorial to the Red Army soldiers stands in a park opposite the church. Thus, architectural history and different historical events commemorated sit side by side in Mošnov. Single-nave describes a church space with one main nave; prismatic describes the tower’s geometric shape.

The Lubina, cycling routes and Poodří

The Lubina flows through Mošnov, which extends along both banks of the river. A signposted cycling route passes through the town. One route leads south from Mošnov via Příbor to Kopřivnice. From Mošnov, you can also join the signposted Jantarová stezka, which runs from Kraków through Moravia to Vienna. The route information offers different scales of orientation: from the town the route passes through, to the southern connection, and then to the route from Kraków to Vienna. The nearby Poodří Protected Landscape Area lies northwest of Mošnov. Its direction differs from that of the southern route. If you are planning a specific cycling stage, check the signposting on site.
