Bílov brings together a lookout tower, the Church of St. Lawrence and trails connected with the Hubleska water reservoir. When planning a visit, you can choose between local history, a specific climb and cycling and walking routes that take different paths. Water engineering and smaller cultural sites also help orient visitors. These include the Paseky reservoir, a villa in the Obora Hubleska game preserve and the Boží muka wayside shrine.

Lookout Tower and Local History

The Bílov lookout tower is 62.50 metres high, and its viewing platform is 26.25 metres above the ground. These figures refer to different heights: one is the height of the tower, the other the elevation of the platform. This helps you understand where the viewpoint sits within the structure. An external steel staircase with 137 steps leads to the platform. If you plan to make the tower a fixed part of your itinerary, the number of steps gives you a concrete idea of the climb. Check current visiting arrangements in advance.

The Church of St. Lawrence was originally made of wood and was rebuilt in stone between 1709 and 1731. Its history can therefore be divided into two building phases: the wooden structure was followed by the stone reconstruction. The church has been a protected cultural monument since 3 May 1958. For travellers interested in local history as well as views and trails, it is a distinctive historical landmark.

Trails around Hubleska

The small “BÍLOV-HUBLESKA” water reservoir was built by the municipality of Bílov in 2001. From there, an educational trail with Stations of the Cross runs through Bílov towards the castle and museum in Studénka. A red-marked hiking route from Bílovec to Fulnek runs around the Hubleska water reservoir. The routes offer different points of reference: the educational trail has a named starting point and direction, while the red route is identified by the towns of Bílovec and Fulnek and its course around Hubleska. You can choose whether to follow a trail through Bílov or a route around the reservoir.

A specific cycling route is also available: the 25-kilometre cycle route No. 6039, “Rodištěm S. Freuda” (“Through the Birthplace of S. Freud”), passes through Bílov. Different features can help you choose between cycling and walking routes: the cycle route’s total length is given, while the walking routes are described by their course and direction.

Water Engineering and Other Places

The Paseky reservoir is another water-engineering structure. It is a flow-through reservoir with an earth dam, an outlet structure and a safety spillway. Bílov is therefore home to different types of water infrastructure: the small Hubleska reservoir was built by the municipality, while the type and structural components of the Paseky reservoir are specified.

Jindřich Salcher, one of the founders of the MASSAG factory, had a villa built in the extensive Obora Hubleska game preserve. The villa is now a residential house. A revitalised pond lies in the Hubleska woodland above the villa. The villa and pond offer both a historical and a scenic point of reference.

The Boží muka wayside shrine is located at the edge of Bílov, on the road towards Fulnek. Its location adds a specific point on the outskirts to the area’s trail and local orientation.
