If you are planning a stay in Závišice, you will find several specific themes to choose from: an approximately eight-kilometre-long nature trail, two religious buildings with different historical connections, the Dožínky harvest festival and a cycling tour whose route options vary by edition. This allows you to shape your stay around your interests rather than treating the individual attractions as a fixed programme. The nature trail explores natural history; the church and chapel offer their own historical connections, while the Dožínky also include a procession and food offerings.

Nature Trail and Landscape History

The Naučná stezka okolo Závišic nature trail is about eight kilometres long. There are places to sit at eight stops, and six stops have interactive elements for children. The route thus links several stopping points along a clearly defined themed trail; if you are travelling with children, the interactive stops may be a particular point of interest. The route can help you plan your visit; how much time to allow also depends on how long you spend at each stop.

At the Pískovna stop, visitors learn that an inland glacier covered this area about 300,000 years ago. This introduces a topic in glacial landscape history that differs markedly from the more recent historical connections found in the village. Near the viewpoint on the Hůrka slope are gorges in a former small-scale limestone quarry. Limestone was extracted there to produce lime. This slope therefore brings together a distinctive landform and the former use of its limestone.

Church and Chapel in Závišice

In the centre of Závišice, next to the school building, stands the Roman Catholic Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was solemnly consecrated in September 1935. Another historical point of interest is the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the Závišice Paseky; it dates from 1861. Those interested in religious buildings can consider two different structures and dates here: the church’s consecration in 1935 and the chapel’s year of origin, 1861.

Dožínky: Procession and Food Offerings

At the Dožínky, a procession in traditional dress starts in the village centre and continues to the festival grounds behind the local cultural centre. Food offerings include Frgály pastries, grilled meat and potato pancakes, as well as a honey tasting. This highlights two distinct aspects of the event: the procession through the village and the food on offer. If you would like to include the Dožínky in your stay, check the event dates in advance.

Cycling Routes at the Závišický Pedál

The 2026 edition of the Závišický Pedál is designed as a partly signposted cycling tour for experienced bikers as well as parents with children. Route lengths vary by edition; the offering includes cycling routes from 15 to 75 kilometres, with varying levels of difficulty. By comparison, the nature trail is about eight kilometres long. The difference is therefore not only in the activity but also in the stated route distances; the Pedál’s difficulty level is another point of comparison. This lets you assess the two offerings by their distances and the character specified for each.
