Bordovice stretches for about two kilometres along the banks of the LichnovskĂ˝ potok. The valley and its surrounding hills give the village a distinct landscape; at the same time, its attractions for visitors range from hiking trails to local architectural and village history.

Valley, Hills and Protected Nature

High slopes enclose the valley of Bordovice. To the northwest, Na Peklech reaches 608 metres, while to the southeast, Velký Javorník rises to 918 metres. The varying elevations form a striking backdrop to the landscape around the village. Parts of Bordovice lie within the CHKO Beskydy Protected Landscape Area, while other parts are in the Podbeskydská pahorkatina Nature Park.

Nearby, the Velký Kámen Natural Monument protects, across 3.649 hectares, an extensive outcrop of sandstone layers and a naturally distinctive woodland with high biodiversity. Also nearby, a wooden observation tower stands on the 918-metre summit of Velký Javorník. It is 25.915 metres high and has two viewing platforms. From there, the view extends across the Frenštátská brázda and the outer Beskydy range to Lysá hora, as well as to Ondřejník, Poodří, Štramberk and the Veřovické vrchy. Visibility depends on the weather.

Hiking Trails with Different Levels of Detail

The green-marked KČT hiking trail 4840 runs along the southern border of Bordovice from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm to Velký Javorník. It continues via Malý Javorník to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. This describes a route connecting several named places, not just a single section of trail in Bordovice.

Another hiking connection leads from Velký Javorník to the Bordovice bus stop: first, follow a green-marked route for 1.7 kilometres to Nad Horečkami, then continue on a yellow-marked route to the stop. The total distance is 4.3 kilometres. The two descriptions differ in their level of detail: the route of trail 4840 is specified, while this connection also includes precise distances. At the “Bordovice, rozc.” stop, there is a bus stopping bay and a passenger shelter in at least one direction of travel.

Village History and Architecture

The origins of Bordovice are traditionally believed to date back to the 13th century. It is generally assumed that the village was established on lands belonging to the Hukvaldy estate after woodland had been cleared. The first recorded mention of the village is a separate matter: it dates from 1584. Bordovice remained closely connected with the Hukvaldy estate. An iron forge, purchased by the nobleman Kašpar Boček in 1568, is also part of the history of local crafts. It stood on the site of Mr Bumbala’s smithy.

The only registered immovable cultural monument in Bordovice is the Roubený dům. This detached, single-storey timber building, constructed using log-building techniques, dates from the first half of the 19th century and was the birthplace of the partisan Josef Drozd. Its architectural features include a gabled roof, vertically boarded gables, a ventilation opening and lower boarding. These details give the building a distinctive architectural character; it is also connected with a specific figure from the village’s history.

The masonry chapel also has a history with several distinct stages: it was completed in 1877, consecrated in 1894 and held its first services in 1925. This sequence distinguishes the construction, consecration and start of services as three separate milestones. In a review of 2025, the municipality also mentions the Gulášové slavnosti as its fourth edition, with eight cooking teams.
