A Gothic castle cellar, a chapel open in summer and trails of varying lengths give Bílovec several specific points of interest for a stay. The castle is a prominent landmark visible from afar on the southeastern edge of the inner urban area. Its “Skrytý středověk” exhibition is housed in the Gothic cellar. In this way, Bílovec combines a striking building with several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning a trip.
Castle, museum and church tower
The “Skrytý středověk” exhibition focuses on medieval topics. The “HISTORIE BÍLOVCE a továrny Massag” exhibition covers different ground: it explores Bílovec’s historical and administrative development, displays guild objects and addresses the role of textile production. Those interested in the town’s history will find a range of distinct topics here.
Bílovec Museum offers a virtual guide for its exhibitions in the form of a historical town clerk, an audio guide and touchscreens. As the presentation technology may change, check in advance which of these facilities are currently available if they are of particular interest to you. The Bílovec Tourist Information Centre is on the ground floor of a Baroque town house next to the castle; the rest of the building houses the museum.
St Nicholas Church is open to visitors. Climb reservations for its church tower can be made at the Bílovec Information Centre from May to September. Check the seasonal booking arrangements before your trip. St Barbara’s Chapel is also open to tourists and those interested in its history during the summer season; check the current seasonal arrangements before visiting.
Hiking trails and a cycling route
The educational trail through Hubleska Forest passes through woodland where the local fauna and flora are explained. Another hiking option is the walk along the Údolím Jamníku and Hubleska educational trails: it is 6.5 kilometres long and passes through gently rolling terrain. Plan for a combined 6.5-kilometre walk along the Údolím Jamníku and Hubleska educational trails through gently rolling terrain.
Red-marked hiking trail No. 32 runs from Bílovec to Fulnek and is 13 kilometres long. Its features include forest sections and panoramic views of the Oder Mountains and the Beskids. Compared with the 6.5-kilometre walk along the two educational trails, this route is considerably longer; the landscapes described also differ. This lets you compare the options by distance and the scenery described. Check the current trail markings before setting out.
For cyclists, cycle route No. 6011 passes through Bílovec and runs between Bartošovice and Polanka nad Odrou. It offers a different way to include Bílovec in an itinerary than the hiking trails described above. Check the current signposting before setting out.
