The hiking trail to Filipka, a birdwatching platform in the floodplain forest, and the Olše Canyon reveal different sides of Hrádek Nad Olší: outdoor activity, nature observation and river scenery. Medieval traces and a museum with everyday objects used by earlier generations add to the picture. This gives you several options for your stay: you can focus on nature and trails, or include local history and individual events.
Hiking and Trails
The Hrádek–Chata Hrádek–Filipka hiking trail is 4.8 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 386 metres. These two figures complement each other: as well as the length, the elevation gain gives you another concrete factor to consider when planning. So if you include the route in your day, you can take both the distance and elevation gain into account. The marked trail network in Hrádek is used by hikers and cyclists, and in winter by cross-country skiers too. The Filipka route offers a specific hiking option, while the trail network also caters to other ways of getting around.
Floodplain Forest and the Olše
In the Girov floodplain forest in Hrádek, a nature trail leads to an elevated, covered platform for observing the landscape and wildlife, especially birds. Three information panels, two interactive learning stations and five forest benches complement the trail. Along with birdwatching, visitors can take advantage of information and learning activities, as well as places to sit.
The Olše Canyon in Hrádek is about one kilometre long and ten metres deep. It serves as a starting point for water trips on the Olše. Water conditions and suitability may vary; check them before planning a specific trip.
Traces from Different Eras
A damaged central core and a disrupted neck ditch remain from the medieval fortification of Zómczysko. The small castle was once intended to oversee a trade route from Hungary, via the Jablunkov Pass, to Silesia. At the summit of Filipka, a sandstone block marks the tripoint of Hrádek, Nýdek and Návsí. It was installed at the actual boundary point in 1997. The fortification and the boundary marker represent different historical connections: the trade route on the one hand, and the shared boundary point of the three municipalities on the other.
The Hrádek Museum and Information Centre is located in a reconstructed, century-old former fire station. It displays a variety of everyday objects used by earlier generations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum is at Hrádek 115, next to the Leisure Activities Centre; visits should be arranged in advance whenever possible.
The “hrádecký rynik” was a three-legged metal cauldron once used to heat food in the fields.
