The Lysá hora nature trail combines a hiking route with topics related to nature and culture. Ostravice also offers a poet’s house, exhibitions and the opportunity to combine a restaurant visit with a brewery tour. If you are looking for a hotel in Ostravice, you can plan your stay around whether you would like to focus on the nature trail or the literary and cultural attractions.

Lysá hora Nature Trail: Route and Topics

The Lysá hora nature trail is 16.5 kilometres long and has 15 stops. At the summit, there are also two information boards at the meteorological station. You can start the trail at either of two points by Ostravice railway station; the section from Ostravice to the summit follows the red-marked hiking trail.

The trail covers more than just the route: it tells the legend of the bandit Ondráš, stories about caves and treasures, describes the landscape as it used to be, and provides information about the region’s plants and wildlife. Stories and nature topics thus go hand in hand along the way. Visitors with a particular interest in the landscape will find a different perspective here than at the exhibitions and historic buildings in the village.

Petr Bezruč and the Landscape

At the Petr Bezruč Log Cabin, the living area of the poet’s summer home has been preserved in its original form, including the interior furnishings designed by Petr Bezruč himself. The adjoining wooden shed houses the Krajem Petra Bezruče exhibition, established in 1983. Visitors can learn about the surroundings of the summer home and the poet’s life story. This includes the landscape below the Beskids, whose difficult past Petr Bezruč captured in his major work Slezské písně. A visit thus combines a glimpse into the preserved living spaces with a literary perspective on the landscape.

Woodcarving and Architectural History

Ráj dřevěných soch is a permanent exhibition of carvings by woodcarver Luděk Vančura. It is located in the Biskupská Garden next to the Ostravice municipal office. The works offer an additional artistic focus alongside the exhibition in the wooden shed at the Petr Bezruč Log Cabin.

The Roman Catholic church in Ostravice was built in 1788–1789 in a so-called folk style with Baroque influences. Since 1999, it has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Above the altar is a painting by B. Herbert dating from 1706.

Exhibitions and Planning Your Visit

The art group named after Petr Bezruč was founded in 1970. Its exhibition was held annually in Ostravice until 2017; since 2019, it has been held in July in the elementary school gym and lasts about four weeks. If you would like to factor this exhibition into your travel plans, check the specific dates in advance. This helps distinguish the limited-time exhibition from the permanent displays.

Restaurant and Brewery Tour

At Beskydský pivovárek, you can combine a restaurant visit with a brewery tour. The tour requires advance registration; alternatively, you can join a public tour. This offers a different focus from the hiking trail and exhibitions, bringing together a meal and a look inside the brewery. If you plan to take a tour, check in advance which of the two options is available for your chosen date.
