The church, half-timbered farmstead, and crafts center give Königswerth a distinctive cultural profile; at the same time, a nature trail, cycling route, and paddling trip offer different ways to explore actively. These make it possible to plan a stay around the history of architecture and mining, traditional crafts, or outdoor activities.

Architectural history: St. Kunhuta and the Seebohm Villa

The existence of St. Kunhuta Church is documented as early as 1240. Its Baroque reconstruction retained rare Romanesque-Gothic elements from the earliest phase of its construction. The building thus combines a Baroque reconstruction with elements from an earlier building phase. The Seebohm Villa marks a different period: the mining company Britannia had it built in 1909 and 1910. Together, the church and villa offer different points of entry into Königswerth’s architectural history—from the church’s early documented history to a building from the early 20th century.

Statek Bernard: Half-Timbering, Mining, and Crafts

The farmstead at Statek Bernard was built in the traditional Cheb half-timbered style and is located near the decommissioned Bernard mine. Statek lies amid a landscape shaped by open-pit mines and lignite. Its reconstruction in 2005 and 2006 made it possible to establish a center for traditional crafts. Here, several themes come together: the farmstead’s construction, the area’s mining past, and traditional crafts.

The SVITSOL gallery and workshop in Königswerth also focuses on craftsmanship: scented candles are made and decorated by hand there. At Statek, SVITSOL offers practical classes in which participants make their own candles and soaps. The classes are intended for families, schools, corporate teams, and tourists. Travelers can choose between learning how scented candles are made and taking a class to create their own.

Nature Trail and Cycling Route

The Královské Poříčí nature trail introduces visitors to the town’s past and present, its sights, and the region’s mining history. A description published in 2020 characterizes it as an easy circular route of about 3.5 kilometers, with 14 stops and information boards. It presents local and regional topics along a loop, offering a different focus from the history of a single building at Statek Bernard.

A route description updated in 2016 calls the Cyklostezka Ohře 2 a flat, easy, 19-kilometer asphalt route between Kynšperk and Královské Poříčí railway stations. Check route conditions before setting out. For additional orientation, Statek Bernard is about one kilometer from the Ohře cycling route.

Planning a Day of Paddling

A full-day, easy paddling trip runs six kilometers from the campground in Königswerth to Loket. It is considered suitable for beginners and families with children. Check equipment availability and operating conditions before planning. Unlike the cycling route, which is described in terms of distance, surface, and endpoints, the paddling trip is explicitly presented as a full-day activity. This can help you decide whether to dedicate an entire travel day to paddling or instead plan a circular walk or cycling route.
