In Milín, striking memorial sites meet routes with very different focuses: one educational trail explores a history that reaches back to the Second World War, while other routes focus on nature and exercise. A church with an unusual history is another defining feature of the town. When planning your visit, you can make time for culture and the outdoors without confusing the different routes and sights.

Monument and Church: Two Local Chapters of History

The Victory Monument stands within the municipality of Milín, on a hill between the town and the settlement of Slivice. Two pylons made of pale Liberec granite dominate the monument; they are 10.5 and 11 metres high, respectively. It commemorates the last battle of the Second World War on the European continent and the final defeat of Hitler’s German army. Commemorative ceremonies and battle reenactments are held there every year. If you plan to attend one of these events, check the dates before your trip.

The Church of St. Wenceslas also reflects several periods in the town’s history. It was created by converting a grain storehouse dating from 1824 and was built between 1887 and 1890 by the builder Antonín Bastl of Příbram. On 27 September 1890, it was consecrated by Metropolitan Canon Dr. František Krásl. After being damaged in an air raid in 1945, the church was repaired between 1946 and 1948. The monument thus recalls the end of the war, while the church tells a story of construction and subsequent repairs.

Circular Routes with Different Focuses

The Milín–Vrančice educational trail includes a learning loop and a recreational sports loop. The shorter loop is about 1.7 kilometres long and has six stops. The educational trail also includes six play and interactive stations on nature themes, aimed especially at children. These details offer several ways to choose a route: its approximate length, the number of stops and its playful focus on nature.

Another option in the surrounding area is the Vrančická draha educational trail. It runs around a pasture, is marked with wooden arrows and has a board at the entrance showing a plan of the individual stops. If you would rather follow marked routes through the town, there is another option: cycle route 302 and two marked hiking trails pass through Milín. Vrančická draha and the Milín–Vrančice educational trail have distinct names and features, so plan according to the route you want to take.

Events, Cinema and Practical Information

The Milín Masopust has been a recurring tradition since 2008. The 2026 edition is described as a procession through the town, with stops for performances and dancing. If you would like to experience the Masopust, check the dates of future editions before your trip. The annual commemorative ceremonies at the Victory Monument are a separate event; the two occasions therefore offer different reasons to time your visit around an event.

The Centrum volnočasových aktivit serves as a cultural, information and tourism centre. It provides information about the region, current event listings and bus connections, as well as Milín brochures and tourist stamps. Facilities in the publicly accessible garden include a climbing wall, Russian skittles, a children’s sandpit, benches and a summer pavilion. Kino Milín screens films regularly, usually on Fridays and also twice a month on Tuesdays; school screenings and special screenings are also held. Check the current cinema programme before you travel if you want to include a film in your plans.
