Třebsko can be explored through two very different timeframes: the Třebsko Hrádek earthwork dates to the Late La Tène period, while the first written mention of the village dates back to 1367. An organ dating from 1703 and a 20.5-kilometre pilgrimage route offer further, quite different points of interest.

Třebsko Hrádek: Earthwork and Interpretation

The archaeological site of Třebsko Hrádek lies on the slope of Na hrádkách hill, above the right bank of the Hrádecký-Třebský potok stream. The earthwork forms a rectangle measuring 96 × 67 metres. The accompanying ditch is about the same depth, and the raised rampart is more than two metres high on its best-preserved side.

The site dates to the Late La Tène period and is probably a type of Celtic square cult enclosure. It was once thought to be a military camp from the Thirty Years’ War. By contrast, the first written mention of Třebsko dates to 1367. The prehistoric dating of the earthwork and the medieval written record of the village thus provide two distinctly different chronological reference points.

Church, Organ and Music

The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on a rise at the southern edge of Třebsko. Třebsko is also home to the organ built by Gotthard Welzel in 1703. Its history reaches beyond the village: in 1960, it was transferred to Třebsko from the Church of St. Anne in Kostelec nad Orlicí.

The most striking features are the organ pipes in the façade, with ornamentation unique in Bohemia, and the acanthus carvings. The instrument offers a tangible glimpse into the design and provenance of a historic work. The church is also connected with music: the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the concert venues for the Antonín Dvořák Music Festival.

The Pilgrimage Route and Regional Bus Service

The pilgrimage route from Březnice to Svatá Hora passes through Chrást, Třebsko and Příbram. The route is listed as 20.5 kilometres long, with a moderate elevation gain. If you are planning to walk it, you can use these two figures as a guide; hiking conditions may vary.

For regional travel, bus route 567 connects Příbram, Třebsko and Rožmitál pod Třemšínem. The associated timetable has been in effect since 14 December 2025. Check the departures for your travel date before setting off.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Travel Focus

When looking for a holiday apartment in Třebsko, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: is the trip mainly about the archaeological site and its historical periods, or are you planning to walk the pilgrimage route? The church and the history of the organ offer another cultural point of interest.
