A green-marked hiking trail runs through Radětice, and archaeological traces range from a Slavic burial site to a workplace for iron production. The village also has an old Slavic settlement layout and a landscape between a valley and two named hills. This combination offers different ways to enjoy a stay focused on village history, scenery and regional destinations.
Valley, Hills and Settlement Layout
Radětice lies at an elevation of 526 metres in a valley that slopes from north to south. To the west, the village is bounded by the 547-metre-high Babylon hill; to the east lies Silina, at 548 metres. Silina covers more than 11 hectares. The elevations differ by just one metre; the hills mark the western and eastern sides of Radětice. The settlement layout is also a distinctive feature: the village plan forms an old Slavic circle. The valley, hills and circular layout give the village a clear landscape and historical character.
Archaeological Traces from Different Periods
Radětice was first mentioned in writing in 1298. Archaeological evidence reaches further back: east of Silina hill is a Slavic burial site dating from the 9th century, which was excavated archaeologically from 1953 to 1955. A 13th-century metallurgical workplace focused on iron production was also excavated near Radětice. The medieval and modern village centre is classified as an archaeological site in category UAN I. A 7.5-kilogram bronze hoard was found on Stráž hill. The chronology is revealing: the burial site dates from before the first written mention, while the workshop belongs to the 13th century.
A historic building adds another dimension to these archaeological themes: a former large farmstead, house number 2, stands by a village square with a pond. The farmstead adds an example of rural farm architecture to the picture of the village’s history.
Hiking Trail and Nearby Destinations
There is a specific route for hikers: green-marked hiking trail No. 3064 passes through Radětice. The route runs in this order: U Buku – Palivo – Radětice – Pečice. Its number, marking and sequence of places help you identify this particular trail.
Two pilgrimage sites with different geographical settings lie near Radětice. Příbram is about 8 km away and is home to Svatá Hora. Maková Hora lies on a hill above the municipality of Smolotely. Radětice has a good bus connection to Příbram. Check the timetable before travelling if you plan to use this connection.
Getting Your Bearings at the Village Square
A building on the village square houses a library, an inn and a hall that can host cultural and social events. There is also a general store on the village square. Check the availability of individual services and the store’s opening hours before your trip.
