Věšín lies in a valley in the southwestern Brdy region. The Chapel of Saint Francis Seraphicus stands in the center of the village. From there, Třemšín (827 m) can be seen to the south and Praha (863 m) to the north.
Chapel and local history
The chapel was built between 1898 and 1905 and consecrated in 1905. This adds a specific subject of local history to the landscape views of the two peaks. If you choose Věšín for more than its scenery and are also interested in its cultural heritage, the chapel offers a clearly identifiable landmark in the center of the village.
Hiking and cycling
Teslíny is one of the starting points for the 13-kilometer Naučná stezka Okolím Padrťských rybníků nature trail, which is classified as easy. When planning, you can take the route length and difficulty level into account together. This makes it easy to match this hiking option to your plans for the day.
The Padrťské rybníky are freely accessible to walkers and cyclists from Teslíny via green- and red-marked hiking trails. The ponds are therefore an option for both a hike and a bike ride.
One described cycling route passes the chapel in Věšín and the municipal office on the village square. It then continues along an unmarked, easily ridable field track toward the Obžera pond and the Skalice (Vlčava) River. This route offers a different view of the area: it links the stretch through Věšín with a continuation toward two named landscape features.
The described routes also differ in how they are marked: the trails to the Padrťské rybníky are marked in green and red, while the cycling route continues along an unmarked field track. Check local signs and trail conditions before setting out.
Monastery and craft history
The Teslínský klášter is the ruin of a Benedictine provostry founded around 1353, which was a branch of the Ostrovský Monastery. The monastery can be reached from Teslíny via green- and red-marked hiking trails. This makes it possible to combine a hiking destination with medieval history; the approach via Teslíny is the one described here.
Another historical landmark is the KOVO Věšín production cooperative: on July 24, 1892, 39 nail makers founded it at the U Šenkýřů inn in Věšín.
For an overview of the area's cultural history, you can compare the provostry founded around 1353, the cooperative's founding in 1892 and the chapel's construction between 1898 and 1905. This highlights the distinct themes of monastic history, craft history and religious architecture. Together with the trails starting in Teslíny and the route through Věšín, these provide several points of interest to help you choose your excursion destinations.
