Buková u Příbramě reveals itself through its castle history, chapels, a Christmas tradition, and marked hiking and cycling trails. For planning your trip, it is useful to note the seasonal timings: Čechova Stodola is open year-round, while the “Staré pověsti české” exhibition runs from May to October. “Jesličky” is one of the village’s annual Christmas traditions.

Castle History and Village Setting

Buková u Příbramě was first mentioned in 1336 as the seat of the Lords of Buková. The castle’s present-day appearance dates to 1751, when an older manor house was remodelled. The castle is a two-storey, three-winged building with a mansard roof. It is not open to the public; check current access if this is important for planning your trip.

The chapel in the circular village centre is dedicated to Saint Zikmund and was built in 1888. Its altar dates from the second half of the 18th century, making it older than the present chapel building. There is also a Baroque wayside shrine at the crossroads between Buková, Pičín and Rosovice. These structures differ in form and in their place within the village setting: the chapel stands in the village centre, while the wayside shrine is at a crossroads.

A small chapel, U sv. Jana, is located in the upper part of the village. May devotions are held there in May. If you would like to include a service in your plans, check the specific dates, as they may vary.

Exhibitions and Christmas Tradition

Čechova Stodola is an educational attraction open year-round, with four themed exhibitions throughout the year. A visit is therefore not limited to the dates of a single exhibition. “Staré pověsti české” runs from May to October. Large pictures and figures accompany the Czech legends, which are also recounted during the visit. This seasonal offering therefore differs from the year-round exhibition programme.

“Jesličky” offers another seasonal point of reference: this annual Christmas tradition is about 100 years old. A shepherd, an angel and a devil go from house to house. At around 10 p.m., the event ends at the chapel with Christmas carols and a gathering of local residents. The specific programme may vary; check local information about that year’s event before your trip.

Hiking Trails, Cycling Route and Landscape

The blue-marked Komárov–Jince–Buková u Příbramě–Rosovice hiking trail passes the local castle. A green local hiking trail runs from Buková in the direction of the partisan memorial. The two descriptions offer different points of reference: the castle for the blue trail and the memorial for the green trail. Distances, walking times and difficulty levels are not specified.

A cycling route also leads to Buková: “Do Pičína” runs via Malá Buková to Buková u Příbramě. Čechova Stodola is listed as a place to visit along the route; the castle is not open to the public. This makes it possible to distinguish the village’s cultural attractions from route destinations without planning a visit to the castle.

The Sychrovský stream crosses the municipal area from west to east and flows into the Vackov pond. The smaller Dražský pond is nearby. Forests cover almost 55 percent of the cadastral area, a total of 427 hectares. Buková u Příbramě can be considered a gateway to the Brdy forests. Together, these details describe the streams and ponds in the municipal area, as well as the forest cover and the village’s regional orientation.
