Všestudy can be explored through its architectural history, landscape and a former cycling competition. The Červený mlýn, the bell tower and the former hop-drying facility represent different chapters in the town’s history. The area is also characterized by flat agricultural land and the park surroundings of Veltrusy. This gives you a way to appreciate the different aspects of the town individually—from distinctive buildings to an event whose former route distances are known.

Landscape, Park and Protected Area

The municipality of Všestudy is set in flat, agriculturally used countryside. Roads are mostly lined with avenues of trees that vary in age and species. In places, the Mlýnský potok and the Veltrusy Park floodplain forest form the municipal boundary. Near Všestudy, Veltrusy Chateau Park is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset. These opening hours give you a specific timeframe for visiting the park.

The cadastral area of Všestudy u Veltrus is also part of the landscape: it lies within the 297.4-hectare Veltrusy Site of Community Importance. Protected species listed there include the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus). Alongside the agricultural land and tree-lined avenues, a designated protected area and the species listed there are also distinct nature-related features to keep in mind.

Architectural History on the Edge of the Park

At the northeastern edge of Veltrusy Chateau Park, in the cadastral area of Všestudy, stands the Červený mlýn, a neo-Gothic mill dating from 1792. After it was renovated and its milling equipment removed, the building served as a guesthouse and excursion inn. During the Second World War, it was the headquarters of the Hitler Youth; after 1948, it was converted into a retirement home. These changing uses mark different historical periods in the building’s history. The former hop-drying facility in Všestudy is also an important building, adding another architectural landmark to the town’s history.

The Bell Tower of Všestudy

The bell tower is a round masonry structure on a circular base and has stood since 1948. A new bell was returned and consecrated in 2007. The dates mark different milestones: 1948 refers to the bell tower’s existence, while 2007 marks the return and consecration of the new bell. Together with the mill and the former hop-drying facility, it forms another clearly described architectural feature of the area’s history.

Žabincový prolog: Former Routes

The revived, humorous cycling competition Žabincový prolog reached its sixth edition in its more recent history in 2015. A 2014 edition featured three routes: five kilometers for adults, 500 meters for children and 50 meters for the youngest participants. The distances can be compared directly: the children’s route was ten times as long as the shortest route, and the adults’ route was ten times as long as the children’s route. The figures therefore describe the route format at the time in 2014; 2015 marks the sixth edition in the competition’s more recent history.
