Zálezlice offers three different perspectives for planning a trip: cycling on two numbered routes, local church and literary history, and the natural setting of the Kozárovická tůň. When choosing a trip, you can first decide which of these themes you want to shape your stay. The themes complement one another, but address different questions: route options, local history, or a peaceful experience in nature.

Landscape and a river remnant

Zálezlice lies in the fertile Elbe lowlands, within the landscape of the area between the Elbe and Vltava rivers. The Elbe lowlands refer to the specific landscape; the area between the rivers places it in the wider region between the Vltava and Elbe. The description of the village thus brings together a particular lowland and a broader river landscape.

The Kozárovická tůň is a remnant of an original river meander and lies near an oxbow of the Vltava. A meander is a bend in a river; the tůň therefore points to an earlier course of the water. It is a popular destination for nature lovers and for peaceful walks. Its natural setting sets it apart from the cycling connections and historical sites in the village: here, the focus is on an earlier river formation and quiet walks.

Cycling routes with different corridors

The Vltava cycling route No. 7 passes through Zálezlice between Nelahozeves and Hořín, on the way to Mělník. Except for the Klecany–Na Dole ferry section, it follows the Vltava and has no major climbs. This exception is important when assessing the climbs; also check the surface and conditions before setting out.

Cycling route No. 2 also passes through Zálezlice. Its corridor runs via Kralupy nad Vltavou, Nelahozeves, Zálezlice, and Mělník to Ústí nad Labem. The details emphasize different aspects: No. 7 can be understood in terms of its course along the river and its climbs, while No. 2 is described by the sequence of towns. Check the signage for No. 2 locally.

Church and literary history

St. Nicholas Church in Zálezlice is a subsidiary church where services are held regularly. If you plan to attend a service, check the schedule beforehand. Part of the interior was repaired after the severe flooding of 2002. The church’s use and the history of its repairs offer different points of reference in time: regular services and the memory of the flood.

Another historical connection leads to Vítězslav Hálek: he lived at house No. 12 in Zálezlice, where a memorial plaque to him is mounted. Two distinct historical perspectives thus sit side by side: at the church, religious use and the history of the flood; at house No. 12, biography and remembrance.

When looking for an apartment, the reason for your trip can shape your plans: if cycling is your priority, you can compare the two route corridors; if you plan to attend a service, take the schedule into account.
