Feldbach can be explored through three distinct themes: regional history, walks through the town and the Raab river landscape. There is also a regular farmers’ market and cycling routes with different profiles. If you are planning a stay, you can first decide whether culture, a particular walking route or activities by the river are your main priority.
Regional history at the Museum im Tabor
The Museum im Tabor was built in 1469 as a fortified refuge for the local population. Today, its 41 rooms and 12 exhibitions present life in southeastern Styria, from the Stone Age to the recent past. Its broad historical scope spans different eras and makes the museum a destination in its own right for those interested in culture. The museum offers individual guided tours and educational programmes for all age groups.
Church, tower and art
Feldbach Parish Church was built in its present form between 1898 and 1900. Including its steel crown, the church tower stands 72 metres tall; its colourful surface features more than 2,000 colour panels. On the upper floor of the church, the parish exhibition room displays ecclesiastical objects, vestments and various devotional images. Architectural details and specific exhibition objects thus offer different ways to explore the church.
The Kunsthalle Feldbach is also part of the town’s cultural history: it was founded in 1999. The stations of the Decalogue Trail are located on the north side of the parish church and the Memorial Church in Feldbach. These sites complement the view of the parish church with another connection to religious art and remembrance.
A town walk with a view
The Feldbach walking routes are easy to access, barrier-free and reachable by public transport. The Feldbach town walk is 1.9 kilometres long and takes 30 minutes. The route includes a climb to the Feldbach town tower, which offers panoramic views across the rooftops of Feldbach. This circular walk therefore combines a specified walking distance with a clearly identified viewpoint.
The starting point of the town walk is no more than a 15-minute walk from the train and scheduled bus services. Check current connections before your trip. This way, you can factor the journey into your plans alongside the walking time given for the route.
Raab river landscape on foot and by bike
The Feldbach walk along the Raab follows the river, offering a different focus from the town walk and its climb to the town tower. The Raab river landscape begins at the Franz-Josefs-BrĂĽcke near Feldbach station and extends west to the Rudolfs-BrĂĽcke. A viewing and event platform forms part of the river landscape at Sigmund-Freud-Platz.
Cycling routes also offer a range of profiles: the network of cycle paths starting in Feldbach includes both challenging tours and relaxed family routes. The R11 Raab Valley Cycle Path is considered an idyllic, family-friendly cycling tour along the Raab. This lets you choose between a general selection of tours starting in Feldbach and a specifically named route along the river.
Farmers’ market on the main square
Every Saturday, the farmers’ market on the main square offers fresh regional specialities and fine handcrafted goods to sample and buy. The market adds a regular weekly event to the town’s cultural and recreational activities. As opening and offerings may change, check the latest market information before your visit.
