Jagerberg can be discovered through a variety of travel experiences: the Johannesweg combines a four-kilometre circular route with texts from the Gospel of John; the parish church preserves historical details, and the Notburgakirtag takes place each year in September. The town’s character also includes biological water treatment at the natural swimming pool. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether outdoor activity, local history or an event date should shape your visit.
The Johannesweg: Circular Trail and Meditation
The Johannesweg is four kilometres long, follows a circular route and starts at the church car park in Jagerberg. At scenic spots, stations invite visitors to meditate on words from the Gospel of John. The route is therefore defined by more than its length: the stations give the circuit a spiritual setting. If you would like to combine exercise and meditation, you can take this focus into account when planning your visit. A bus stop is within a 15-minute walk of the starting point. Check public transport connections before travelling if you plan to take the bus to the trail.
Church History and the Notburgakirtag
Jagerberg parish church offers two distinct historical points of interest. A Gothic monstrance dates from the early 16th century. There is also a smoke kitchen in one of the tower rooms, which historically allowed refugees to cook in the church. The two details are quite different: sacred art stands alongside a distinctive testament to the former use of the church interior. The Notburgakirtag shifts the focus to a recurring event. It takes place in Jagerberg every year on the third Sunday in September, with more than 200 showmen taking part. Check the specific date for the year in question before travelling.
Biological Water Treatment at the Natural Swimming Pool
At Jagerberg’s natural swimming pool, the water is purified naturally through mineral filters, thousands of aquatic plants and microorganisms. Those interested in the combination of filtration and natural processes will find a tangible point of interest in this water treatment system.
Gardens and Visit Planning
The Romantikgarten Rosi Hofer is a traditional garden set amid the fields and farmland of the south-eastern Styrian hill country in Jagerberg. The garden’s design and agricultural surroundings create a distinctive setting, while seating areas offer a place to rest. Visits from April to October must be arranged by phone in advance. Call before travelling to confirm that a visit is possible.
Erni´s Gartenvielfalt, a flourishing garden paradise, is located in Unterzirknitz. Erni´s Gartenvielfalt has been family-owned since 1889 and includes a biotope with its inhabitants and visitors. Visitors can learn about everything from cultivation to harvest. The biotope and knowledge of cultivation appeal to different interests in nature: garden life as well as the process from cultivation to harvest. Visits must be arranged by phone; there are no regular opening hours. Call ahead to check whether a visit is currently possible.
