The Feldbach city walk is 1.9 kilometres long, takes 30 minutes and is easy and accessible. It starts at the city’s distinctive landmark, said to be the world’s most colourful church tower. The short route and clearly defined duration give you a well-defined timeframe for an initial exploration on foot.

Tabor, Weights and Building History

Another way to explore Feldbach’s past is to visit the Heimat.Museum in the Tabor. The museum was built in 1469 as a refuge castle for the local population. Twelve exhibitions in 41 rooms showcase life in southeastern Styria from the Stone Age to the recent past. The museum also offers private guided tours and educational programmes for all age groups. The Feldbach Tabor is one of the best-preserved cultural monuments of its kind, not only in Styria but beyond.

History also takes concrete forms in the city: in front of the town hall stands the Steinerne Metzen, a chalice-shaped grain measuring vessel. It was used as a standard measure in large parts of eastern Styria. Its shape and former function tell the story of a measure whose significance extended beyond a single town.

Two thirds of the main nave, built in the 12th century, have been preserved in the parish church of St Leonard; the foundations of the old tower also remain. Another feature of the city is the Feldbach Art Gallery, established in 1999.

Walks and Regional Trails

The Feldbach Raab walk passes the motor skills park, leisure centre, stadium and Feldbach Art Gallery. Another destination is the route to Kalvarienberg-Alm: it leads to St Anne’s Church, which offers panoramic views across the entire Raab Valley. The route known as the Child-Friendly Walk ends at the large motor skills park and playground in Sparkassenpark.

The Feldbach–Bad Gleichenberg railway walking trail starts at Feldbach ÖBB railway station. You can return to the starting point by train or bus; check the timetables when planning your trip. On a broader regional scale, a description of the “On the Trail of the Volcanoes” long-distance trail network published in 2023 lists 49 circular routes and 612 kilometres of hiking trails. These figures refer to the regional network, not to a single walk in Feldbach.

Fisswald is a special recreational area. The Martin Gutl Memorial Trail is another kind of cultural landmark: dedicated to the memory of priest Martin Gutl, it represents a vibrant community that carries on his values and outlook.

Market and Garden: Discover Regional Highlights

Every Saturday, the farmers’ market on the main square offers fresh regional specialities. Fine crafts are also available to sample and buy. Food and crafts share the same market, so your visit need not be limited to a single theme.

The Holunder-Wunderwelt is a show, experience and culinary garden at the Christandl family’s orchard, dedicated to elderberries and aronia. On a guided tour, you’ll learn what aronia looks like and how elderberry bushes are pruned; the Christandl family will answer your questions. The experience combines a garden visit with practical insights into both plants.
