You can plan a trip to Storuman around different interests: marked trails, a viewpoint, swimming and disc golf, historic sites and cross-country ski trails offer various ways to enjoy your stay. If you’re looking for accommodation, first consider whether your trip will focus more on outdoor activities, culture, water or winter pursuits.

Trails and views

On Hälsans stig, a sign marks every kilometre. There are five benches along the trail. The surface is suitable for walking frames, strollers and wheelchairs. These specific details can help you assess whether the trail suits your needs, without assuming a particular walking time or distance.

Utsikten is the highest point in the built-up area of Storuman. It has a wooden observation tower, benches and a barbecue area. There are lay-bys along the road to Utsikten, and ample parking at the top. The observation tower, seating and barbecue area offer different ways to enjoy a visit.

Kyrkstigen begins about 1 kilometre north of Storuman, off the E45. The historic church path is 6 kilometres long and was once used to fulfil the obligation to attend church. This sets it apart from a trail intended mainly for navigation or a short break: the route’s history as a church path is also part of the experience.

Badsjön and Luspholmarna

Badsjön has a bathing area with a diving tower and a trail of about 1 kilometre around the lake. You can also play disc golf around the lake: the course offers options for beginners as well as more challenging play. Swimming, a walk along the shore and disc golf are different ways to spend time by the lake; the approximate trail length helps you gauge the walk.

The museum in Luspholmarna houses old artefacts and an old bakery that is still in use. You can reach the museum on foot, by bicycle or by canoe. The Luspholmarna heritage site also has a bakery hut. In summer, traditional northern Swedish flatbread is baked in a wood-fired oven and sold there. The waters around the heritage site offer opportunities for swimming.

The statue of the Wild Man of Storuman stands beside the Blue Highway, the E12/E45. Its red colour symbolises the indomitable strength of the people of Lapland. Forsviksberget is also near Storuman. It has a steep, well-trodden ridge trail; sturdy footwear is recommended.

Winter, fishing and getting here

Two illuminated cross-country ski trails, 4 and 6 kilometres long, start at Storuman’s ski stadium. There is also a 1-kilometre sprint track. When planning, you can distinguish between the two trails by their length; the sprint track is another, shorter option at the same ski stadium.

Many fishing waters are close to Storuman town centre and the railway station. If fishing is part of your plans, this is a useful point of reference for finding your way around. You can reach Storuman by car, bus or plane. In summer, you can also arrive by train on the Inlandsbanan. Check timetables and connections for your travel dates, especially if you plan to travel by train in summer.

Choosing accommodation by season

When looking for hotels in Storuman, it’s worth deciding first on the season and the focus of your trip. In summer, you might include travel on the Inlandsbanan and seasonal flatbread at the Luspholmarna heritage site in your plans; in winter, the illuminated trails and sprint track at the ski stadium offer a different focus. This way, you can plan your stay around the activities that genuinely interest you, rather than assuming you’ll want the same kind of outing every day.
