Nearby Hamrafjället is nicknamed Blomsterfjället (Flower Mountain) because of its more than 400 different plant species. Tänndalen’s recreational activities also have several distinct focuses: alpine skiing, ski touring and cross-country skiing, as well as mountain biking and activities on the water. Which of these you want to shape your trip is a good starting point for planning. Mountain biking also takes place in two distinct landscapes: the treeless Fjäll and the Fjäll birch forest.
Between the tree line and Blomsterfjället
Tänndalen’s alpine ski system includes 57 varied slopes above and below the tree line. This makes the ski area a defining focus in winter. Seasonal operating details may change; check the latest information for your dates before travelling.
Hamra Syd offers a different focus: the ski area in Tänndalen has no lifts or downhill slopes. The emphasis there is on ski touring and off-piste skiing. When planning, you can distinguish between alpine skiing and a stay focused on touring and off-piste skiing.
Ski trails in Tänndalen and the Funäsfjällen
Three cross-country ski trails, measuring 1.7 km, 2.4 km and 3.5 km, start below Ski Lodge Tänndalen. These three specific distances offer different route options, without implying a walking or running time. Beyond Tänndalen, the Funäsfjällen trail system includes a total of 300 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails. They pass through valleys and high mountain terrain. The 300 kilometres refers to the Funäsfjällen as a whole, not just Tänndalen. Both Tänndalen and the Funäsfjällen offer good conditions for training, exercise and relaxation.
Activities on the water also add to the options: kayaks and canoes are available for hire at Svansjön and in the Tännån. Rental availability may vary by season. If a paddling trip is part of your plans, check availability for your travel dates.
Mountain biking and Fjäll birch forest
Tänndalen Fjällcykelpark offers lift-assisted mountain biking across the treeless Fjäll, as well as trails through Fjäll birch forest. The park currently has 14 trails and two skills areas. The biking options can therefore be described not only by the trails but also by the skills areas. Lift operations are seasonal and may change; check the latest operating information when planning your trip.
Plan your journey and stay
Tänndalen can be reached by car, train, bus or plane. Routes and timetables may change, so check connections for your travel dates. As operating and rental conditions may vary by season, plan around your preferred travel period. This helps keep your journey and activities aligned with the same stay.
