Hedeviken lies where the Ljusnan River widens into Vikartjärnen. Water, mountain trails and the fäbod culture of Nyvallen shape different aspects of a stay. When planning, it is worth considering the season and the activities you have in mind together: summer trails, fishing and winter activities each offer a different focus.
Summer trails and the national park
Valmen is about 17 kilometres from Hedeviken and can be reached via Sörviken and Valmåvägen. From there, a hiking trail leads up the mountain in summer. The drive through Hedeviken to Nyvallen, one of the entrances to Sonfjället National Park, is also open in summer; seasonal road conditions apply. These destinations offer different experiences: at Valmen, the mountain trail is the main attraction, while Nyvallen combines access to the national park with fäbod culture.
Fäbod culture in Nyvallen
The Nyvallen fäbod has been in continuous operation since the beginning of the 18th century. Guided tours about life at a fäbod are offered there; confirm availability before your visit. Free-ranging mountain cattle are also part of the experience in the mountain birch landscape. This allows you to combine your outing with an insight into local fäbod culture, as well as access to the national park.
Fishing in lakes and rivers
Lake Rörsjön in Hedeviken is part of the Hedeviken fishing area. The area offers a variety of fishing opportunities in lakes and flowing waters; the Ljusnan, which flows past Hedeviken, is a popular area for fly fishing. When planning how to fish, you can choose between lakes and flowing waters.
Fishing permits for the fishing area are sold digitally through iFiske and delivered by email, in the app or, if requested, by SMS. Check the current conditions before buying a digital fishing permit. Fishing in the area is free for children and young people up to and including the age of 15. Many trails around Hedeviken pass good fishing lakes. On fine days in late winter, you can ice fish there; ice and trail conditions may vary.
Winter activities
The well-maintained snowmobile trail network around Hedeviken connects to the snowmobile trails in Vemdalen and Hede. Check trail conditions locally before planning a trip. For cross-country skiing in the national park, it is recommended that you start in Nysätern: the road to Nyvallen is not cleared of snow in winter. These are separate notes about two different winter activities: snowmobiling on the connected trail network and cross-country skiing in the national park, starting in Nysätern.
