A long sandy beach, a nature reserve with seasonal birdwatching, and a historic lighthouse give Olofsbo its different sides. The beach is child-friendly and has shallow bathing water; swimming conditions vary by season. There is also a protected Halland farmhouse and local activities that shape a stay beyond beach time.
Beach, cycle route and birdwatching
Olofsbo Beach is a long sandy beach and one of the bathing beaches along the Kattegattleden coastal stretch between Falkenberg and Varberg. If you want to combine swimming with a bike ride, it offers a specific coastal stop to include in your travel plans. The shallow water and child-friendly character make the beach especially appealing to families looking for a seaside destination; when swimming is suitable depends on the season.
Morups tånge nature reserve offers a different perspective. Cyclists turn off the Kattegattleden 1 km north of Olofsbo and follow the signs for 1.5 km to reach the reserve. Check the signs locally, as they may change. Morups tånge is a birdwatching destination: in late summer and autumn, you may see most of Sweden’s wader species there. For travel planning, this means a seasonal contrast with a beach stay: birdwatching is especially prominent here in those later months.
Lighthouse and Halland farmhouse
Morups TĂĄnge Lighthouse was built in 1841 and is 27 metres tall. It has been unmanned since 1962, but its light still shines across the Kattegat. Its year of construction, height and continuing function tell different parts of its story: a 19th-century structure whose light remains part of the coast.
Staffens, Olofsbo’s local heritage and farmstead, showcases another kind of cultural heritage. This well-preserved Halland farmhouse, enclosed by buildings, has one of Sweden’s largest thatched roofs and is protected as a historic building. Staffens opens for visits every year on the first Sunday in July. Visits are also possible during Ekomuseum Days on the first weekend in August. If you plan your stay around one of these recurring dates, you can include a visit to the farmstead in your travel schedule.
Local bathing history and experiences
The history of swimming here is also reflected in local initiatives: the Olofsbo Havsbadsförening association was founded to get swimming at the beach underway. The first beach kiosk was opened by Alfred Bengtsson, Karl-Johans Gustav and Gustav i Olofsbäck. Together with the skateboard park, which is still well known today, this gives the coastal town a cultural history that goes beyond beaches and nature. The park in Olofsbo is one of the oldest surviving skateboard parks in the world.
Olofsbo Islandshästar offers rides on Icelandic horses to the beach or into the forest. You can check current booking details in advance. Another experience with a specific booking requirement is beer tasting at Agerörs Kustbryggeri: tastings take place by arrangement, either at the brewery or in the orangery building. This lets you plan around different interests—from the beach and birdwatching to culture, horse riding or a tasting.
