You can get to know Cerdillo through its hiking trails and traditional architecture. The route to the beehive is particularly well defined: it starts in the village and covers 4.5 kilometres round trip. There are also other named hiking trails in the Parque natural Lago de Sanabria y sierras Segundera y de Porto. When planning, you can choose between a clearly described trail and other routes without losing sight of the village’s cultural attractions.

Hiking trails with different destinations

The hiking trails in the nature park include Cerdillo–Colmenar, Cerdillo–Molino Botero, and Cerdillo–San Ciprián. The Cerdillo–Murias–Vigo de Sanabria route is also located there. These names give you a clear idea of the individual routes and their destinations. The route to the beehive is described in more detail, including its length, course, and features.

This trail is 4.5 kilometres long, including the return journey. It starts in Cerdillo and follows a linear, easy-going route through open terrain. It is also suitable for children. Information panels cover the flora, fauna, and traditional life of the Sanabria region; along the way, the trail passes through oak forests. This hike therefore combines nature with regional culture. There is also a practical limitation to bear in mind when planning: sections with rocks or grass can become slippery after rain.

If you are planning a stay that includes this trail, its starting point in the village is a useful reference when choosing where to stay. The other hiking trails offer additional named destinations in the nature park; you can consider their names and the description of the route to the beehive as different options when planning your trip.

Architecture and regional themes

Traditional architecture is a defining feature of Cerdillo. One notable example is the Colmenar de Faldriego: it has a circular floor plan, high walls, and an overhanging roof. These construction features were designed to protect it from bears. The “Hombres y bosques” walk includes the Senda del Colmenar de Cerdillo. This means you can encounter the subject of the colmenar both in the architecture and on a regional walk.

Molino Botero is another named local point of interest. The mill is in good condition, and Cerdillo–Molino Botero is also one of the hiking trails in the nature park. When choosing between routes, you can keep both the landscape and the cultural heritage in mind without combining them into a single trail.

Festivals in Cerdillo

The Kedada Trail Cerdirock is a recurring event among Cerdillo’s patron saint festivals and is organised by the Asociación Cultural CERDIROCK. In 2025, the event was held for the third time. This year refers to that edition, not to a future date. For trip planning, it is helpful to distinguish between the hiking trails, which are described on an ongoing basis, and a festival held in a specific year: the route to the beehive can be assessed by its length and features, while the Kedada Trail Cerdirock is part of the festival programme.

The local festival tradition also has a documented historical reference: in 2023, the Concejo was reactivated in Cerdillo to review the festivals held around 15 August. The Concejo is therefore part of a specific chapter in the village’s history; the festivals mentioned connect the calendar with the village’s communal festivities.

Landscape and getting there

Cerdillo lies at an altitude of around 1,100 metres above sea level in the granite landscape of La Cabrera. This gives you a sense of the village’s setting; on the route to the beehive, you will also find oak forests and information panels about flora, fauna, and regional life. If you are mainly interested in hiking, you will find both a specific distance and a clear connection to the landscape.

The road route described follows exit 79 on the A-52 and the ZA-104 to El Puente. From there, continue on the ZA-114 to Trefacio and Cerdillo. For your stay, you can consider the route there alongside the named trails and cultural themes of the village. If the route to the beehive is part of your plans, its starting point in Cerdillo is a useful reference when looking for accommodation for your stay.
