On the southeastern slope of the Serra de Llaberia, mountain scenery, valleys and historic buildings come together in Pratdip. From medieval traces in the village to routes through the surrounding countryside, your stay can take different directions — depending on whether you want to explore the culture or spend more time outdoors.
Valleys, Mountain Scenery and Views
The landscape around Pratdip is shaped largely by the valley of the Barranc de la Dòvia. Below the village, this valley joins the valley of Santa Marina. The Cingles de Mont-redon form the mountain backdrop to the village, and several remarkable viewpoints offer views across the whole of Camp de Tarragona.
Nearby, the Santuari de Santa Marina sits in a natural setting. The sanctuary includes a chapel dedicated to Saint Marina, a spring and a picnic area.
Church, Defensive Towers and Watermills
The Church of Santa Maria preserves an apse from the 12th century. The rest of the building was renovated in the 16th century and has chapels dating from the 18th century. The different building phases can therefore be traced in a single building: the apse belongs to an older section, while the renovation and later chapels mark further stages in its history.
A medieval defensive tower formed part of the town wall that protected Pratdip from the 13th or 14th century onward. In 1985, the tower was designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest in Catalonia. At the Torre de Cal Capet, the former entrance portal with its round arch has been preserved. Els Tres Molins, meanwhile, is a protected medieval monument of local cultural interest, consisting of three watermills. Together, these buildings illustrate different aspects of the historic village: fortifications, a preserved portal and mill construction.
Routes and Outdoor Activities
Numerous routes of varying difficulty start in Pratdip. The countryside around the village also has trails for mountain biking and cycle tourism. The cliffs and steep slopes have many climbing routes, also with varying levels of difficulty. Check local rules and conditions before climbing.
The Ruta dels Dips is a circular route created by the Oficina de Turisme that introduces visitors to the legend of the Dips. If you plan to take this route, check that the map is available before you travel. This lets you explore the legend as a theme in its own right, while the cycling, hiking and climbing routes offer other ways to experience the countryside.
