The parish church of Santa Maria, the dels Masos Viaduct and several named trails give Duesaigües a character that combines local history and outdoor activities. This gives you different options for planning your trip: you can explore the local cultural heritage or choose routes that connect Duesaigües with other destinations.
Church and industrial heritage
The parish church of Santa Maria is a Renaissance-style church documented since the 14th century. It was rebuilt over an older church and consecrated in 1753. These dates mark different periods in its history: written records date back to the 14th century, while the rebuilt church was consecrated in 1753.
Another landmark is the viaduct named after the Barranc dels Masos. It reaches a maximum height of 36 metres and has been recognised as part of Catalonia’s industrial heritage. It can be seen as you enter Duesaigües on the T-313 road, making the viaduct a useful landmark on arrival.
There are several old lime kilns along the Camí de Porrera. Two of them are in the municipality of Duesaigües, 80 metres apart. One kiln along the path is listed as an industrial structure from the 19th and 20th centuries in the Inventory of Catalonia’s Architectural Heritage, under number 49011. The two nearby kilns and the inventoried kiln show different aspects of lime burning as part of the local heritage.
The annual calendar also has a religious aspect: the main festival is held on 15 August in honour of the Assumption of Mary. The exact programme may vary from year to year, so check the dates for your year of travel. Font de Vilamanya lies along the path to Castell Monestir Sant Miquel d'Escornalbou and serves as a landmark along the route.
Hiking and cycling
Duesaigües has terrain suitable for hiking that is considered not very demanding. Road cycling and mountain biking are also possible. The routes described differ in their mode of travel and course, so you can choose between a hike, a cycling trip or a particular connection between places.
The walking route “Caminos empapados de historia” descends to Duesaigües along a PR trail that runs parallel to the Rasa de Vilamanya. The excursion “Pel Sud de la Baronia” is suitable for hiking or mountain biking and follows the surfaced PR trail between Duesaigües and the Castell-monestir d'Escornalbou. Both descriptions include Duesaigües, but focus on different aspects: one is the descent to the village, the other the route between the village and the castle-monastery.
The excursion “Camins de la Baronia d'Escornalbou” leads to Duesaigües and L’Argentera, as well as the area around the Castell-monestir d'Escornalbou. Another option is the “Ruta per la Baronia d’Escornalbou”, which includes guided visits to Riudecanyes, Duesaigües and L’Argentera. As the dates and availability of these organised activities may change, check the details for your planned visit. Trail conditions can also change, so find out about current conditions before setting out.
Getting there and finding your way
The municipality is crossed by the Tarragona–Zaragoza railway line via Reus and Móra la Nova and has a station that is in service. If you plan to arrive by train, check the timetable for your travel date. When entering Duesaigües on the T-313, the dels Masos Viaduct is visible and provides a clear landmark on the road.
You can choose activities based on your own interests: Santa Maria and the lime kilns represent different aspects of local history, while the excursions described cover hiking, cycling and connections to other places. When planning an overnight stay in Duesaigües, you can decide whether to focus more on the local cultural heritage or on one of the routes.
