Vandellòs lies inland in the valley of the Llastres River. There are several ways to experience the area during a stay: hiking to scenic and historical settlements, exploring historic buildings in the village, and discovering the world of olive oil at the Molí de Vandellòs. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether hiking, village history or your journey there will shape your stay most.
Hiking Trails with Different Destinations
The Vandellòs–Masboquera hiking route runs through the Serra de Santa Marina. The Vandellòs–Remullà route leads to the uninhabited settlement of Remullà and the Font del Rentador. Another hike, Vandellòs–Figuerola–Genessies, leads to the Iberian settlement of Mola de Genessies. These routes offer a choice of different destinations: a trail through the Serra, an uninhabited settlement with a spring, and a settlement dating from the Iberian period.
If you are mainly looking for scenery, the Serra de Santa Marina offers a clear point of reference. Remullà and Mola de Genessies focus more on settlement history. The destinations can help you choose a hike based on your interests, without assuming a particular route length or walking time.
Village History, Architecture and Olive Oil
The parish church of Sant Andreu dates from 1773. Its design is defined by three naves and a dome. This brings both the church’s age and its architectural layout into focus.
Remains of medieval fortifications have been preserved in Vandellòs. These include a defensive tower from the 16th century, built onto Ca la Torre. Ca la Torre also houses an interpretation centre about the history of Vandellòs, its rural past and local traditions. The remains of the fortifications and the tower, which dates from a later period, offer different points of reference for the history of the village.
The original rooms and machinery of the mill have been preserved at the Molí de Vandellòs. There you can learn about the world of olive oil and discover the entire production process. The mill building thus adds a topic focused on producing this product to the architectural and local history.
The festival calendar also offers a specific date to bear in mind: the Festa Major in honour of Sant Cosme and Sant Damià takes place in late September. If you would like to plan your stay around the festivities, check the specific event dates for your travel days.
