The Ebro offers several ways to enjoy a stay in Móra D'ebre: walking and cycling trails, canoe routes and designated protected areas. There is also the historic old town, a theatre and literary events. If you are looking for accommodation in Móra D'ebre, you can start by deciding whether you want to focus on nature, local history or cultural events.
Trails between the town, gorge and viewpoints
Two GR99 routes in the municipality can be travelled on foot or by bike. One GR99 route connects Móra D'ebre with Ascó and passes through the Pas de l’Ase gorge. The recently restored Sendera al Castell leads to Citel·la and offers views. The Ruta pel Balcó de l’Ebre is a linear trail connecting Passeig de l’Ebre with Passeig del Pont. These descriptions offer different reference points for choosing a route: a connection between two towns, a destination with views or a trail with named endpoints.
The La Picossa route starts in the area of the hermitages of Santa Madrona and Sant Jeroni and climbs towards La Picossa. From there, it continues to the l’Estel summit and passes by Cova de la Porca. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out.
Ebro landscapes and canoe routes
Many of the Ebro’s islands and channels are designated wildlife reserves and included in the “Illes de l’Ebre” PEIN protected area. A canoe trip for birdwatching runs between Garcia and Móra D'ebre and includes Subarrec Island in Móra D'ebre. It is offered year-round; arrangements may change. Check current availability before planning your trip.
Another option is the “Kayak and memory, un riu republicà” canoe route between Vinebre and Móra D'ebre. It visits sites associated with the Battle of the Ebro and passes preserved remains from that period. This lets you weigh up two different focuses: birdwatching on one route and the history of the Battle of the Ebro on the other.
Old town, buildings and visits
The old town of Móra D'ebre is crisscrossed by narrow, historically characterful streets and lies beside Castell de Móra and the priory church. Guided visits to the castle are organized in summer by prior reservation. As seasonal arrangements may change, check current options before your visit.
Another historic structure is the present-day concrete Pont d’arcades bridge. It was inaugurated in 1943 and consists of several arches. The old town, castle and church represent the historic town centre; the bridge adds a dated 20th-century structure to this picture.
Theatre, literature and festivals
La Llanterna Teatre presents performances, especially during the Fira del Llibre Ebrenc and Litterarum. The Fira is a meeting place for authors born in Móra D'ebre or connected with the town. Litterarum presents literary works in different forms: music, dance, theatre, poetry and magic. Programmes may change between editions; check event dates if you plan to time your trip around them.
The Festa del Riu is considered Catalonia’s oldest river festival and currently includes a particularly large number of traditional elements. A historical reenactment at the 2026 Festa del Riu shows Ebro boatmen in period clothing pulling a 1,000-kilogram muleta with a towline. Sirgador, a coffee-based drink with a special ingredient, is also served at the festival. Individual programme items may change.
Regional cuisine
Clotxa is considered a traditional dish of Móra D'ebre. Traditional Ranxo is another culinary experience: it is distributed and tasted as part of Primavera Cultural 2026. Together with Sirgador, this shows how local food and drink traditions can be experienced at both a cultural programme and a river festival.
