Rupit combines striking buildings with the landscape of the Riera de Rupit. The Pont Penjat, historic religious buildings, hiking trails and the Salt de Sallent offer different starting points for a stay combining culture and nature. You can focus on architectural history, exploring the town or the landscape.

Craftsmanship, castle and churches

The Pont Penjat was built in 1945 by local craftsmen Francesc and Pere Rovira, both blacksmiths, Salvi Vila, a mason, and Joaquim Marsal, a foundry worker. Its purpose was to cross the Riera de Rupit, which surrounds the town in a deep gorge. The bridge is also a visitor attraction to cross: here, a specific year of construction, local craftsmanship and the river landscape come together.

Castell de Rupit was built around the year 1000 and classified as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) and a historic monument on 22 April 1949. The castle is a ruin and cannot be visited; check its current visitor status before your trip.

The religious buildings also reflect different periods. Construction of the present-day Església de Sant Miquel began in 1729 and was apparently completed in 1734. The Ermita de Santa Magdalena was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style and restored in 1973. This offers a selection of historic buildings from different periods, each with its own story.

Collsacabra and the Salt de Sallent

The municipality of Rupit i Pruit is part of the protected natural area of Collsacabra. Cliffs, dense forests, streams and waterfalls shape this landscape. One particularly striking waterfall is the Salt de Sallent: after the Riera de Rupit passes through the town, it plunges more than 100 metres there, three kilometres from the town.

If you would like to include nature experiences in your day’s plans, you can make the waterfall a destination in its own right and focus on the Collsacabra landscape as well.

Choose hiking trails by distance

Three hiking trails have specified distances: the Itinerari de les Fonts de Rupit is 5 kilometres long; the Itinerari del Salt del Sallent and the Itinerari de Santa Magdalena i mirador del Soler are each 3 kilometres long. This makes the first the longest of the three, while the other two cover the same distance. Their names point to different themes that may help you choose.

Before setting out, check the trail markers and local conditions. You can compare the stated distances directly when choosing a route, so you can first decide which distance suits your day’s plans.

Bell tower and self-guided tour

The Campanar de Rupit offers a climb of almost 30 metres to the highest point of the parish church. From there, the view extends across the town and its natural surroundings. Check the current access conditions before your visit.

Descobreix Rupit is a self-guided tour. The accompanying brochure can be printed or collected from the tourist information office; check in advance whether collection is currently possible. The tour offers another way to explore Rupit independently.

Regional products and a visit nearby

Rupit’s shops sell typical bread and coca, neules, cured meats, cheese and other locally made artisanal products. If you are looking for a particular specialty, it is best to check with the individual shops to see what they currently offer.

Mas El Torrent, near Rupit, offers a staged farm visit with tastings of local products. If you would like to plan this visit, ask about an appointment in advance.

Arrival and practical planning

There is a large municipal car park at the entrance to Rupit i Pruit. It concentrates vehicle traffic and eases congestion on the narrow streets of the historic centre. The car park has four charging stations for electric vehicles. As parking regulations and charging infrastructure can change, check the latest information before travelling.
