The Cingles de Vallcebre form a natural limestone wall enclosing the valley. Two viewpoints offer different perspectives: from Mirador del Telefèric, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley. At Mirador de Cap Deig, you can see the Cingles and the surrounding woodland and agricultural landscape up close.

Rocky Landscape, Paths and Mining History

Camins de Vallcebre provides georeferenced information about the main routes in the municipality. These include Els Cingles de Vallcebre, Volta a Coll de Pradell, Ruta Minera a Coll de Pradell, Volta al Grauet, Volta a la Llacuna and CamĂ Aeri de l'Artic. The free app for Android and iPhone is designed for visitors who want to take routes, go for walks, enjoy activities, visit attractions or use services, shops and businesses in Vallcebre.

The “Pels cingles de Vallcebre” circular route passes some historic “graus”: steep access paths that for centuries were the only way to reach or leave Vallcebre. The route thus connects the rocky landscape with the town’s history of travel and access. A geological trail also starts in Vallcebre and heads towards Coll de Pradell and Fumanya; it has several stops.

A hiking route of just over an hour leads to the Coll de Pradell mines. The mines have been partially restored and made accessible via the route. Check local conditions before your visit. The Trenet Miner de Coll de Pradell also includes a restored section of former railway track leading to an old mine.

Geology and Fossils

Espai Geologia Vallcebre is an outdoor geological exhibition in the town centre. Passeig pel Temps illustrates the last 520 million years of Earth’s history along an 80-metre walkway. These two geological attractions give Vallcebre’s town and landscape a distinctive focus: one is an exhibition in the town centre, the other a journey through Earth’s history along a short path.

The Fumanya fossil site extends across the municipalities of Vallcebre and FĂgols. Finds there include more than 3,500 dinosaur footprints and fossil remains, including dinosaur eggs and the remains of plants and animals. The sites may also appeal to travellers who want their stay to include more than paths and viewpoints.

Traditions and Crafts

The Aplec de Santa Magdalena is an annual pilgrimage on foot to a hermitage. A short mass is followed by breakfast together. Since 2006, the Mercat d'Artesans de Vallcebre has been held on the Sunday closest to 12 October. Local, regional and national artisans display their work at the stalls; the market also features activities and workshops on traditional crafts. The annual programme may vary. If you would like to visit the market, check the dates and specific programme before travelling.

Climbing and Canyoning

Vallcebre’s three via ferratas form a municipal, regulated facility at Espai Actiu Vallcebre. Canyoning in Torrent del Forat Negre, also located there, is likewise regulated by the municipality. Escola d'Escalada l'Empalomar is a climbing area particularly suited to beginners, with regulated access. With advance booking, you can book specialist guides and equipment hire there. So, alongside geological and historical attractions, there are clearly designated activities for climbing and canyoning.
