Rajadell offers two clearly distinct ways to spend time on foot: the easy Via Verda along the Riera de Rajadell is 9.2 kilometres long, while Creuem la Riera connects the railway station area with the old town over one kilometre. There is also a history shaped by the Middle Ages, a large castle and archaeological traces. This lets you choose whether to focus on the landscape, the townscape or historic sites.

Hiking between the river and fields

Rajadell has several signposted hiking routes. The easy Via Verda connects the town with Manresa's Green Ring and runs for 9.2 kilometres through riverside woodland along the Riera de Rajadell. Creuem la Riera is a one-kilometre walking path between the railway station area and the old town; interpretive signs cover the landscape, fauna and flora. The two paths therefore differ both in length and in route: the Via Verda follows the river, while Creuem la Riera connects the station with the historic town centre.

The area around the hiking routes includes streams, ridges and plains, mostly characterised by grain fields. The PR-75 passes by vineyard huts, water basins, brick kilns and chapels. These examples of agricultural heritage offer a different focus from the landscape itself and may help you choose a hike.

Old town, castle and archaeological layers

Rajadell's old town has medieval origins; its streets and squares are well preserved. The castle is a fortified residence, essentially Gothic in style, dating from the 17th century. It is one of the largest and best-preserved castles in the comarca.

The Sant Amanç de Viladés archaeological complex includes a Roman villa, an early medieval settlement and Iberian remains. The Sant Amanç archaeological site has two excavated, consolidated and musealised areas. Check local access conditions before visiting.

The route to the Sant Amanç Roman villa is also a circular route. It follows the shady side of Can Viladés and passes the villa; some sections run along an ancient Roman road and the old royal road. This circular walk focuses on both the archaeological site and traces of historic routes.

Oil mill and buildings along the routes

The MolĂ de l'Oli is a traditional stone mill that is still in operation. It produces extra virgin olive oil, including cold-extracted oil. Group tours explain the different stages of olive oil production; visits must be arranged in advance. When planning, also confirm the practical details of your visit.

The local route from Monistrolet passes the Can Gallifa windmill, built in 1910 and featuring modernist elements. The route is short, has no major climbs and forms a closed loop. It offers another way to include local buildings in a hike without assuming the distance or character of the longer Via Verda.

Plan your journey

Rajadell can be reached by train or bus and is connected by the C-25 Eix Transversal expressway. Check current timetables before travelling, and remember when planning that group tours at the oil mill must be arranged in advance.
