Molins De Rei brings together several distinct themes: archaeological finds from the town and the comarca, Renaissance art at the Palacio de Requesens, and walking routes through the town’s heritage. There is also a botanical garden and artificial wetlands along the Llobregat. You can shape your stay around culture, landscapes or a specific festival.

Museums and Renaissance history

At the Museu Municipal de Molins de Rei, you can explore the town’s history, culture and crafts. Its archaeological collection comes from Molins de Rei and the comarca and covers all periods. A space for temporary exhibitions is located at Ca n'Ametller, Plaça Catalunya 25; exhibitions are held there throughout the year. Archaeological finds and a dedicated exhibition space thus offer distinct ways to explore the town’s history.

The Museo del Renacimiento focuses on a narrower period. It is housed in the historic Palacio de Requesens, a building classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN). It is the first monographic museum in Catalonia to present the history, culture and society of the Renaissance. Around one hundred works of art and objects from the 15th and 16th centuries bring this focus to life. While the archaeological collection at the Museu Municipal covers all periods, the Museo del Renacimiento is dedicated to a specific era.

Historic sites and the Fira de la Candelera

The first documented references to Castellciuró date back to the 10th century, when it was a defensive fortress in the Olorda area. In 1949, Castellciuró was classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN). Together with the Renaissance museum, it offers a comparison between different historical themes: early references to a fortress and the art and cultural history of the Renaissance.

The Fira de la Candelera adds a festival with a long history to these themes. It was first held in 1851 and was recognized as a traditional festival of national interest in 2002. The Fira takes place on the first weekend of February; the exact dates vary from year to year. It features tastings of a wide selection of wines and cavas, as well as the traditional carters’ breakfast, Coradella. If you plan to time your trip around the Fira, check the exact event dates in advance.

Walking routes and nature

Four walking routes lead through the streets of Molins De Rei, taking in its historic heritage, the feudal period and other places of interest. The municipal project for the CamĂ de Sant Jaume, by contrast, concerns the signage along the sections of the route that pass through the town. Molins De Rei also has eight signposts for hiking trails and paths as part of the signage network in the Baix Llobregat. The walking routes focus on history and places of interest; the information about the CamĂ concerns signage along its urban sections.

The JardĂ botĂ nic del CEM is located near the Masia Can Vilagut. Covering an area of 1,500 square metres, it includes around 250 wild plant species representative of Mediterranean lowland forests. The garden offers guided tours with commentary for groups of ten or more. Another natural attraction is the Aiguamolls de Molins de Rei: these artificial wetlands lie on the left bank of the Llobregat, right next to its riverbed.

If you are travelling for the festival, check the exact dates before booking. For other travel plans, you can first decide which themes you would like to shape your stay.
