Explore rural paths and local history in Perafita through specific destinations. The “Voltants de Perafita” route combines views of distinctive mountains with stops at local heritage sites; other routes cross agricultural landscapes and lead to a hermitage. The parish church, Carrer Major and local specialities also add different dimensions to a visit.

GPS audio guides and trails around Perafita

For easy walks and outings in the surrounding area, the municipality provides seven GPS-based audio guides. They take you along an extensive network of trails and rural paths to farmhouses, springs and neighbouring places. Along the way, the guides give precise spoken directions, provide information about the landscape, vegetation and points of interest, and warn you if you leave the route. The offering therefore includes both route guidance and information about the landscapes and destinations along the way.

The “Voltants de Perafita” route offers views of Montserrat, Pedraforca and the eastern Pyrenees. It also passes several notable heritage sites: the parish church, Castell de Perafita, Carrer Major and some springs. The landscape and local history are therefore not separate themes here; the sights mentioned lie along the same route.

The Perafita–Santa Margarida route crosses an agricultural and forested landscape. It passes Masia de la Tria and extends as far as the Ermita de Santa Margarida de Vilaltella; the route is suitable for everyone. The Perafita–El Santuari dels Munts route has a different landscape focus: its described surroundings are shaped by agriculture and livestock farming, scattered farmhouses and small woods. No walking times are given for the routes, so the descriptions alone do not allow a comparison of how long they take.

Parish church, Carrer Major and Castell de Perafita

The Església de Sant Pere is in the town centre. Its single-nave layout and octagonal bell tower give the church a distinct architectural form. Its parish function is first documented in 1121. This points to the town’s early ecclesiastical significance; it does not date the present church building.

Carrer Major runs from the southern end of the town centre to Plaça Major. Apart from the BP-4653 road, known as Passeig de Sant Agustí in the town centre, it is Perafita’s longest street. It is lined on both sides mainly with houses built of natural stone. Visitors interested in the built environment will find a different perspective on the town here than along the landscape routes.

Castell de Perafita was built in the modern era. Numerous Neo-Gothic elements give it the appearance of a Central European château. The Mas Puig previously stood on the site of the castle and has been extensively documented since the 13th century. This distinction in time is important: the historic Mas Puig and the later Castell are not the same building.

Perafita’s past is also shaped by its administrative history. When the Sotsvegueria del Lluçanès was established in 1396, Perafita was one of its two capitals. This administrative role helped the town grow, including through the settlement of weavers and other craftspeople. Another memorial is the Monòlit de Jaume Puig. It commemorates Jaume Puig i Beuló of Perafita and his active involvement in the events at the beginning of the 18th century that led to the War of the Spanish Succession.

Local specialities and events

In the town centre, L’Agrobotiga del Lluçanès sells and serves tastings of, above all, bread and Coques de Perafita. This offers a culinary connection to the town without requiring a whole day to be set aside for an outing. As product availability may change, it is advisable to ask about the current selection before visiting.

The tourism calendar lists the Candelera festivities and fair (Fira de la Candelera) for the first Sunday in February. For March or April, it lists the Caramelles de Pascua, described as traditional Catalan songs. The Caminata Perafita–Els Munts is also listed for the first Saturday in September. If a date is important for planning your trip, check that year’s programme.
