Canet de Mar offers several things to focus on during a trip: modernist architecture and older building history, recurring festivals, a park with a playground, the beach and paths into the hills. When planning, consider which of these aspects matter most to you. This will help you choose between culture, time outdoors and a combination of both, without turning the individual offerings into a prescribed itinerary.

Discover architecture and history

The Casa Museu Lluís Domènech i Montaner consists of two buildings from different periods: Can Rocosa, a house from the 17th century, and the Casa Domènech, a modernist house from 1919. Comparing them reveals two distinct phases of construction. After careful restoration work, the Casa Museu opened as a museum in 1991.

The Castell de Santa Florentina also has a long building history: it developed from a fortified manor house dating to the 11th century. Another perspective on the modernist heritage is offered by the Ateneu Canetenc. The library service has been based there since 1999; the modernist building is the work of architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Together, these places show different aspects of Canet de Mar’s architectural history.

Groups wishing to visit the Casa Museu need to make arrangements in advance. A tasting of Vitralls, the sweets typical of Canet de Mar made by local confectioners, can be included. The tasting is therefore a possible addition to a pre-arranged group visit, not a standard part of every museum visit.

Festivals and local traditions

The Fira Modernista takes place every year in September. People dressed in period costume parade through the streets, while the focus is also on architectural heritage, gastronomy, crafts and the customs of the era. If you want to plan your trip around the Fira, check the specific event dates in advance.

Another September date is the celebration of the Mare de Déu on 8 September. In Canet de Mar, it is considered a small Festa Major. The month therefore offers both an opportunity to explore the modernist era and a local religious tradition.

Park, beach and outdoor paths

The Parc de la Misericòrdia was established in 1896 as an addition to the Santuari de la Misericòrdia. The park combines native Mediterranean plants with modernist architecture and monuments designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. It also has a children’s playground. The park thus brings together botanical and architectural features with something for younger visitors.

Platja de Canet stretches along a 1,500-metre coastline. It is flat and easy to reach on foot or by bicycle. There is also a supervised bathing area at the beach. As it operates seasonally, it is advisable to check whether it will be available during your planned visit.

The Canet - La Creu hike offers a different perspective on the landscape. It follows the Riera dels Oms through lush vegetation to the hills around Canet and continues to the Creu de Pedracastell. From this viewpoint, you can look out over the town of Canet. The beach and the hike therefore offer different ways to spend time outdoors; the route information does not specify a walking time or difficulty level.

The Club Vela Canet de Mar also organises sailing-related activities, including sailing courses, dinghy races and sociocultural events. Which of these options is relevant to your trip depends on whether you would rather focus on architectural heritage, the beach and park, or an outdoor activity.
