In Tramacastilla Del Tena, Romanesque architecture, trails through woodland and ravines, and excursions to the Ibón sit side by side. When planning your visit, it is worth considering the different highlights: the village’s history is reflected in two churches, while hiking, cycling and the Tren de Tramacastilla offer different ways to explore the landscape.

Churches and Patron Saint Festivals

The Romanesque church of Tramacastilla Del Tena, dedicated to Saint Martin, dates from the 12th century. Its Renaissance altarpiece dates from the 16th century. This brings two clearly distinct periods together in a single building. Another stop is the Ermita de San Juan Bautista, a rectangular building from the late 17th century. Its Baroque altarpiece dates from the early 18th century and features reliefs of San Juan, San Ramón and San Antonio de Padua. Romanesque origins, the Renaissance and the Baroque can therefore be distinguished through specific architectural and decorative features.

The patron saint festivals in honour of the Virgen del Rosario take place on the first weekend in October. The Ronda through the village houses includes the traditional Paloteao dance, performed by young people, and toasts to the hosts. If you are interested in local festival traditions, this event combines a fixed place in the annual calendar with a distinctive custom.

Hiking Trails to Saqués and Through the Betato

The Senda Circular a Saqués is listed as 4.7 kilometres long, with 210 metres of elevation gain, and takes approximately 1.5 hours. It passes the Barranco de Gorgol and descends towards Saqués. The Camino Viejo is an old trail connecting Tramacastilla Del Tena and Saqués. It runs through the Hayedo del Betato beech forest and the Barranco Gorgol ravine. This distinguishes a measured circular route with notable landmarks from an old connecting trail through forest and ravine.

A family hike through the Bosque del Betato starts in Tramacastilla Del Tena and runs between the village and Piedrafita de Jaca. The Bosque del Betato is nearby and is a dense forest of boxwood, beech, oak and hazel. When planning, you can therefore choose between a route with stated distances, an old connecting trail, and a hike between two villages.

Cycling Routes and a Ride to the Ibón

A cycling route through the Sierra de La Partacua starts in Tramacastilla Del Tena, heading towards Sandiniés, and follows the signposted route to the La Partacua cross-country ski centre. After about 10.5 kilometres, it reaches the La Paul de la Riguala plateau and the Ibón de Tramacastilla. Another cycling route to the Ibón de las Paules leads to the Ibón de Tramacastilla and the La Partacua cross-country ski centre. These destinations give you different reference points when choosing a route.

The Tren de Tramacastilla takes visitors from Tramacastilla Del Tena to the Ibón de las Paules; the train journey takes approximately 50 minutes. It departs from a wooden stop at the entrance to the village, next to the municipal car park. For the return journey, you can take the train or follow a signposted hiking route. Check the timetable and approximate journey time when planning your trip.
