Slovenske Konjice can be explored through a variety of interests: hikes lead to a lookout tower or viewpoint, the historic layout of the town comes to the fore in Stari trg, and local offerings range from beekeeping to wine and homemade dishes. When planning a stay, it is worth first choosing between nature, local history and culinary experiences.

Hiking Trails with Different Destinations

The Slovenske Konjice–Stolpnik hike starts at the Slovenske Konjice cemetery. The round trip is listed as 13 km; at the destination stands a 25 m-high lookout tower. The Slovenske Konjice–Skala hike covers a shorter distance: it starts at the city’s sports centre and is 3 km round trip. Its destination is a viewpoint on Konjiška gora. The two hikes therefore differ not only in length, but also in whether the destination is a lookout tower or a viewpoint.

The Zmajčkova gozdna učna pot is a 3 km-long forest educational trail with twelve thematic stations. Its focus is therefore on the topics along the trail rather than on a viewpoint destination. Above Slovenske Konjice, Konjiška gora also offers a network of hiking trails, forest educational trails, parks and other opportunities for recreation in the woods. These options provide different ways to include nature and exercise in your stay.

Old Town and Firefighting History

Stari trg preserves the historic layout of Slovenske Konjice and is well suited to walks. A stream is one of its defining features. Following a renovation, Stari trg took on its present appearance in 2013, together with the town park; it is considered especially welcoming to visitors. Alongside trails through the countryside, a historic urban setting that you can explore on foot is therefore also a focal point.

The city’s history also includes firefighting. The Muzej gasilstva Dravinjske doline is known for its collections on the cultural and social history of firefighters. The PGD Slovenske Konjice Museum can be visited by prior arrangement. The remains of a castle also offer a link to the past: they are among the most significant castle ruins in Styria; the castle was first mentioned in 1165.

Cycling Route and Golf Course

For a bike ride, the Slovenske Konjice–Zlati Grič route starts at Mestni trg. It is 2.77 km long and runs over asphalt and gravel. Another option for sporting activities is the golf course in Škalce. It lies among vineyards close to the centre of Slovenske Konjice and has nine holes. Alongside hiking trails, the area therefore offers a short cycling route and golf.

Beekeeping, Honey and Regional Cuisine

Čebelarstvo Žvikart offers visitors tastings of sweet honey products. Beekeeping is also presented there, along with an explanation of the importance of apiculture. The Zlati grič wine shop offers wines from Slovenske Konjice as well as homemade dishes from the surrounding area. The two places have different focuses: Žvikart is about honey and beekeeping, while the wine shop is about regional wines and homemade cuisine. Culinary experiences thus complement the options for shaping your stay around nature and local history.
