Visitors interested in culture in Inđija will find several different points of interest: a tourism center dedicated to Celtic life in Srem, galleries, church art and a theater program. These attractions offer a range of experiences. When planning, it is therefore important to decide whether you are particularly interested in early regional history, changing exhibitions or a performance. If you have a fixed time available, it is worth checking seasonal or changing programs first, then choosing the visits that fit your travel dates.
Celtic History in Srem
The Keltsko selo in Inđija is a themed tourism complex dedicated to the lives of the Celts in the Srem region more than 2,300 years ago. Its connection to Srem places the subject in a regional context; the reference to more than 2,300 years ago points to a distant era. Programs may change seasonally. If a particular program is important to you, check what is scheduled during your visit before you travel.
Galleries and Changing Exhibitions
The “Adligat” Gallery in Inđija is a branch of the “Adligat” Museum in Belgrade. Exhibitions in its gallery space change every two to three weeks; check the current schedule if a particular exhibition is important to your visit. The gallery opened on March 30, 2022, with an exhibition about Pavle Vuisić. The opening date is a historical reference point, while the short rotation cycle is relevant when choosing a date for your visit. The Gallery in the Vojnović House offers a different historical perspective: it was built around 1873. The building date is therefore the main point of interest at this gallery, whereas the exhibitions at “Adligat” may change.
Church Art and Theater
The interior of the Church of the Presentation of the Most Holy Mother of God was painted in the late 19th century by Jovan Štajner, a painter from Sombor. The iconostasis features Baroque and partly Rococo forms. For an art-historical perspective, two aspects can therefore be distinguished: the interior painting and the design of the iconostasis.
The Kulturni centar Inđija has a theater and cinema hall with 203 seats. The center opened on May 15, 2003, following the reconstruction of the old Sokolski dom. The theater program includes around ten touring performances per season. The number of seats describes the hall, while the approximate number of touring performances indicates the seasonal scope of the stage program. If you would like to include a particular performance in your trip, check the current schedule in advance.
