The Borek glacial lake south of Stary Borek is a kettle lake; in the village, the buildings convey a picture of pre-war Pomeranian architecture. Stary Borek is also located on a cycling route in the Municipality of Kołobrzeg. This brings landscape, local history and cycling together as concrete topics to consider when planning a trip. The wider Kołobrzeg destination also offers distinct coastal, nature and cultural perspectives.
Cycling and landscape in Stary Borek
Stary Borek lies on one of the most beautiful cycling routes in the Municipality of Kołobrzeg; a visit by bicycle is recommended. If you want to focus your trip on exercise, this is a clear reason to choose it. The Borek glacial lake to the south offers a different focus: its classification as a kettle lake draws attention to the landscape. This gives you two different interests to choose from, without suggesting that the cycling route and the lake form a single route.
Pomeranian architectural history in the village
The buildings in Stary Borek convey a picture of pre-war Pomeranian architecture. A municipal overview, last updated in 2017, lists 30 buildings with heritage features that are recorded in the register maintained by the competent heritage conservation authority. The most valuable of these buildings is considered to be the residential and farm building at No. 26. It dates from the early 19th century. This gives local history two points of reference: the architectural character of the buildings and the history of a specifically dated building.
In the wider Kołobrzeg destination: coast and nature
The beach at Dźwirzyno is a wide, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest. It is suitable for walks and relaxing in the shade. During the bathing season, it has supervised beach sections, food stalls, changing rooms and toilets. Some access points have been adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. These facilities and seasonal conditions apply to Dźwirzyno.
The Gmina Kołobrzeg brings together coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded there, including many protected species. Sphagnum mosses and wetland vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo; insectivorous plants are also found there. The coastal landscape and bog areas thus offer different nature-related interests in the wider Kołobrzeg destination.

The Gminne Centrum Sportu i Rekreacji in Dźwirzyno offers bicycle hire for exploring the Gmina. If you plan to hire a bicycle, check availability in advance.
The harbour in Dźwirzyno was once a fishing harbour and is now a fishing and tourist harbour. It is suitable for coastal sailing, fishing trips and sea excursions in small boats. So, alongside cycling and walking routes, the wider Kołobrzeg destination also offers activities on the water.
