Wadowice lies in the western part of the Wieliczka Foothills, in a basin between its hills and the ranges of the Beskid Mały. The town stretches along the Skawa Valley; the centre lies between the Skawa and the Choczenka watercourse. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether you would like to focus mainly on the town’s history, its themed trails, or cycling and waterside activities.

Museum and Local History

The Museum in the Family Home of Pope John Paul II features a permanent exhibition and also welcomes visitors for individual tours. The Marcin Wadowita Town Museum offers a different perspective on the town and its surroundings: it presents historical collections from the Wadowice area and temporary exhibitions, many of which are connected with Karol Wojtyła. The two museums therefore have different focuses—the family home and a broader historical collection.

The SOWA Discovery, Imagination and Activity Zone is located in Wadowice’s historic railway station and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Those interested in the town’s history can combine these places with the signposted themes of the Wadowice trails, while keeping in mind that they offer different kinds of experience.

Town Trails and Longer Pilgrimage Routes

The Karol Wojtyła Trail is about 4.5 km long and leads to 14 stops connected with the childhood and youth of Saint John Paul II. The approximately 5 km Galicyjskie Wadowice Trail has a different historical focus, with 13 stops presenting the town’s history during the Partitions of Poland. The routes are similar in length, but the number and themes of their stops offer different ways to explore.

Beyond the town trails, the Romea Strata pilgrimage route runs for 20 km through Wadowice Municipality. Along the way, it passes through Jaroszowice, Wadowice, Chocznia, Zawadka and Ponikiew. Another, longer pilgrimage route is the Beskidzka Droga św. Jakuba: its 53 km section runs from Myślenice through Sułkowice, Lanckorona and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska to Wadowice. These distances help distinguish short routes within the town from routes passing through several places.

Cycling and Pump Track

A total of about 55 km of tourist cycling trails run through the municipality. Wadowice Trails is described as a distinct mountain biking option: the complex of singletracks is located in the wooded area of Jaroszowicka GĂłra and is designed for beginners, families with children and experienced mountain bikers.

The pump track in Wadowice has loops for beginners and advanced riders, adapted to different difficulty levels. Use is free of charge. As operating rules may change, it is advisable to check the current rules before visiting. Cycling trails, singletracks and the pump track offer different kinds of cycling, and their stated lengths, terrain and difficulty levels are not directly comparable.

The Skawa, Bees and a Local Speciality

The Wadowice–Grodzisko kayak trail is 14 km long, divided into three stages, and has an estimated paddling time of about 3.5 hours. The Skawa has numerous rapids, rocks protruding from the water and meanders; kayaking on the river is therefore recommended for experienced paddlers. Waterbirds can be observed along the way. The river passes through the Dolina Dolnej Skawy Natura 2000 site.

In Klecza Dolna, Apilandia presents beekeeping and the way of life of bees through multimedia technologies, interactive installations and vivid animations. Check the current visiting arrangements before your visit. You can try a local speciality at the market square: visitors can sample Wadowice cream cake there; no specific provider is associated with it.

Arrival and Getting Your Bearings

Wadowice bus station is on ul. Marsz. J. Piłsudskiego, opposite the railway station. This is a specific landmark for arriving in town; consult the relevant timetable when planning onward travel. When looking for a hotel in Wadowice, you can use your interests—local history, themed trails or activities on the Skawa—as a starting point for choosing your stay.
