Tomice combines a large complex of fishponds with historic buildings and two hiking trails that connect the village to longer routes. The Stawy Tomickie cover about 100 hectares; the trails are 19 and 26 kilometres long. Other attractions include St. James Chapel, which was formerly used as a church, St. Florian Chapel near the municipal office, and the Galeria Sztuki “Bałysówka” in a listed building. This gives you two different scales to consider when planning your trip: individual places and buildings in Tomice on the one hand, and longer hiking routes through the village on the other.

Stawy Tomickie as a landscape highlight

The Stawy Tomickie are a complex of fishponds in Tomice covering about 100 hectares. This figure conveys the scale of the pond area and distinguishes it from the individual chapels and the gallery building. If you want to get your bearings in Tomice through its landscape, the Stawy Tomickie offer a fitting starting point for exploring the area. The hiking trails complement this local focus in a different way: they pass through Tomice and also include other places along their respective routes. The ponds therefore offer a local perspective, while the trails provide a regional-scale route.

Chapels and a historic gallery building

St. James Chapel dates from the 19th century and served as a church until the 1980s. St. Florian Chapel also dates from the 19th century; it stands at a road junction near the municipal office in Tomice. The two chapels therefore share the same century of origin but differ in their features: St. James is notable for its former use as a church, while St. Florian is distinguished by its location at the junction and near the municipal office. This helps you tell the two buildings and their respective histories apart.

The Galeria Sztuki “Bałysówka” adds another perspective on Tomice’s historic buildings. It is housed in a listed building dating from the second half of the 19th century. Compared with the chapels, the building’s date is more precisely specified: it dates from the second half of that century. The former church use, a specific location in the village, and a historic building housing an art gallery thus offer different ways to explore Tomice.

Two hiking trails through Tomice

The yellow hiking trail is 26 kilometres long. It runs from Kalwaria Lanckorona PKP via Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Zebrzydowice, Wysoka, Babica, Witanowice and Tomice to Wadowice. The green hiking trail covers 19 kilometres and runs from Wadowice via Tomice, Woźniki, Grodzisko, Trzebieńczyce and Laskowa to Zator. Both trails pass through Tomice, but differ in colour, total length and endpoints.

The seven-kilometre difference refers to the full routes: 26 kilometres compared with 19 kilometres. When planning, read these figures as the length of each hiking trail, not as a time estimate or a measure of a walk within Tomice. If hiking is the focus of your trip, the route lengths and endpoints are useful points of comparison. The fact that both trails share a place name does not make them the same route.

Tailor your stay to your travel interests

If you are considering Tomice as an overnight destination, you can start by deciding what kind of trip you want. If the ponds, chapels and gallery are the main attractions, the focus is on the local landscape and history. If you want to centre your trip on a hike, compare the two trails by their total length and endpoints. This lets you search for a holiday apartment based on your actual travel interests, rather than treating the routes as the same simply because they share a place name.
