When planning a trip around Stützengrün, views, nature trails and Ore Mountains history offer three distinct focal points. Kuhberg is about the view from a tower, while the Bergwiesenpfad is a circular trail through a valley. The Nadlerhaus tells the story of the village in a historic day laborer's house; the Stützengrüner Weihnachtswelt brings mining and Christmas themes together in a unique visitor experience. You can choose what to visit based on whether you would like to experience a viewpoint, a landscape route or a cultural attraction.

Views and trails

You can reach the Kuhberg viewpoint on foot in about 30 minutes or by an asphalt road. The Prinz-Georg-Turm is 20 meters high; its viewing platform is reached by climbing 99 steps. From there, the view stretches across the surrounding area and the Ore Mountains ridge. When planning your visit, keep two details distinct: the roughly 30 minutes refers to walking to the viewpoint, while the 99 steps are the climb to the platform.

The Bergwiesenpfad offers a different landscape experience. This circular trail, around 3.1 kilometers long, passes through a typical Ore Mountains valley, by mountain meadows where Scottish Highland cattle graze, ponds, streams, springs and forest. Its character comes from the succession of these natural features along the route, while the tower and views are the main focus at Kuhberg. The Eibenstock reservoir borders Stützengrün and offers marked hiking trails, rest areas and information boards about flora and fauna. There are also Kneipp facilities in the village district of Hundshübel; check their condition before visiting.

Local history and Ore Mountains culture

The Nadlerhaus is one of the oldest buildings in Stützengrün. It was built around 1750 as a day laborer's house and today serves as a local history museum. Tours explaining its history can be arranged in advance. If you plan to visit, make sure to arrange a tour in good time.

The Stützengrüner Weihnachtswelt offers a year-round visitor experience centered on mining and Christmas, with mine tunnels, working dwarves and elves, stories, Christmas carols and Ore Mountains folk art products. The two attractions have different focal points: the Nadlerhaus centers on the historic building and its story, while the Weihnachtswelt offers a themed experience. Arrange tours at the Nadlerhaus in advance and check the Weihnachtswelt's opening hours separately.

In the wider Erzgebirgskreis destination

Across the wider Erzgebirgskreis destination, the signposted hiking trail network covers about 4,500 kilometers. One regional circular hike with a clearly stated distance and duration is the Panoramaweg Schwarzenberg: it follows the high ground around Schwarzenberg, is 13.8 kilometers long and takes about four hours and five minutes. Its length makes it markedly different from the approximately 3.1-kilometer Bergwiesenpfad. You can compare the two trails by their stated distances without treating them as a single route.

The cultural landscape of the Erzgebirgskreis also extends beyond individual towns. The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2019. Seiffen is considered the birthplace of Ore Mountains folk art. The Seiffen Open-Air Museum of the Ore Mountains showcases historic buildings and workshops from the 19th and early 20th centuries; its centerpiece is the original, well-preserved Preißler's turning workshop, powered by water. These regional insights complement Stützengrün's local themes: here, the Nadlerhaus and Weihnachtswelt offer their own ways to explore history, mining and folk art.
