There are two ways to explore Hundshübel: the town’s history and the landscape around the Eibenstock Reservoir. Nadlerhaus and the Mühle Collection focus on different historical topics; from Viechzig, the view stretches across the reservoir to the ridge of the Ore Mountains and the Auersberg. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on local history, views, or trails by the water.
Local History from Different Perspectives
Nadlerhaus is one of the oldest buildings in Hundshübel. The traditional Ore Mountain day laborer’s house was built around 1750 and has largely been preserved in its original condition. Its local history room offers a glimpse into life in the area in earlier times.
At Nadlerhaus, the historic building and the local history room are two distinct aspects of a visit: one is an Ore Mountain day laborer’s house dating from around 1750, while the other offers insight into life in the area in earlier times. Guided tours with explanations of the building’s history can be arranged by prior request. If you would like to take a guided tour, be sure to arrange it in advance.
The Mühle Collection focuses on a different subject. The Shaving Museum features around 2,000 exhibits on 200 years of shaving culture, displayed in a historic 1930s salon. Visits are available on request, including for tour groups. Please arrange your visit in advance.
The church in Hundshübel also has a history spanning more than 200 years. It adds another historical landmark to the town’s points of interest.
Views and Trails by the Reservoir
Viechzig is the highest point in Hundshübel. From there, you can enjoy views across the Eibenstock Reservoir to the ridge of the Ore Mountains and the Auersberg. The views of the water and mountain range offer a distinct focus alongside the historic sites.
The Hundshübel Forest Nature Trail lies right beside the Eibenstock Reservoir in the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park. It is an easy 2.12-kilometer loop. Its short, clearly defined route differs from the longer hikes around the reservoir.
A panoramic hike around the reservoir takes a detour to the Viechzig rest area in Hundshübel. The Forest Nature Trail has a specified length, loop format, and difficulty level; the rest area is a specific waypoint on the panoramic hike. This makes it easy to distinguish between the hiking options based on the type of route you are looking for.
The “An der Talsperre Eibenstock / Marienweg” trail starts and ends at the Hundshübel forebay. Along the Marienweg, 15 information boards explain the region’s past and the landscape before the reservoir was built. The trail also includes a section where you can walk along the dam wall. There is a Kneipp facility on the Marienweg.
The route around the Eibenstock Reservoir is also used for cycling. This provides another way to explore the area on two wheels, in addition to the hiking trails described above.
