The outdoor area of Arena Geisingen is located directly beside the Danube riverbed and a branch of the Danube; the indoor arena is right next door. Arena Geisingen is Germany’s only indoor inline skating track and a special leisure attraction for visitors of all ages. The indoor track and its riverside location are therefore closely connected spatially. Specific operating details may vary; check the current conditions before your visit.
History in Geisingen
Two historical landmarks offer different perspectives: the Geisingen pilgrimage to the cross dates back to an incident in 1633. The Geisingen town mill was already in existence in the Middle Ages. It is located just outside Geisingen on Mühlenweg beside the Danube, where visitors can buy fine, home-baked spelt bread. If you plan to buy bread, confirm its availability beforehand. The pilgrimage and the mill thus offer different connections to Geisingen’s history.
Cycling Route along the Young Danube
Near Immendingen and Geisingen, the Energy Cycling Route follows the Young Danube and leads to three volcanic cones. Its profile includes three major climbs and around 490 metres of elevation gain in total. Both details are useful when choosing a ride: they describe specific demands of the route without specifying a particular ride time. As physical conditions can change seasonally, check the route conditions before setting out.
Within the wider destination of Tuttlingen
Tuttlingen district covers 734.4 square kilometres and extends across the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar region and the valley of the Young Danube. In the northern part of the district are juniper heaths and the region of the 10,000ers, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high. Other scenic highlights in the district include the Danube Gorge and the Höwenegg volcanic crater. West of Geisingen lies Wartenberg (844 m above sea level), the northernmost representative of Tertiary Hegau volcanism. This adds a geological point of interest in the vicinity of Geisingen.
The cultural attractions in Tuttlingen district also offer a variety of experiences. The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum features 25 historic buildings that were dismantled at their original sites, moved there and restored to their original condition. In Fridingen, the Museum of the Upper Danube Valley in Ifflinger Castle presents changing special exhibitions as well as permanent exhibitions on the history of the town and its rulers, archaeology, Carnival and more recent history.
