Deilingen can be viewed through two clearly distinct themes: the Deilingen cross-country ski trail is a six-kilometre circular route of easy to moderate difficulty; the Verenakapelle in Delkhofen commemorates the chaplaincy established in 1506. This brings together a winter-dependent activity and a place with historical roots. If you are planning a stay, you can first decide whether winter sports or local cultural history is the deciding factor for you.

Winter in Deilingen: cross-country ski trail and ski lessons

The trail offers clear guidance in terms of length, circular route and difficulty: it is six kilometres long and rated easy to moderate. Snow conditions and grooming vary from season to season. Check these conditions before planning a loop, as they determine how the route can currently be used.

Learning to ski is another winter activity. One winter, the WSC ski school offered courses for children and young people at the ski lift in Deilingen. Children aged five and over practised walking and gliding on flat terrain, climbing uphill, skiing straight downhill and making their first turns, using colourful aids. If a course is important to your travel plans, check the current offerings separately.

Verenakapelle in Delkhofen

The Verenakapelle is in Delkhofen, a district of Deilingen, and is a listed monument. It commemorates the chaplaincy established in 1506. Its location in the district and the history of its founding give the cultural theme a specific context; its protected status adds a lasting designation to its historical significance. For those interested in cultural history, this is a different focus from the season-dependent cross-country ski trail.

Landscape in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination

The Tuttlingen district covers 734.4 square kilometres and encompasses the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar region and the Young Danube valley. The northern part of the district is home to juniper heaths and the 10-Tausender region, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high. The district’s scenic highlights include the Danube gorge and the Höwenegg volcanic crater; white limestone cliffs also rise above the Danube valley.

One of the geological attractions in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination is the Mühlheim rock cave. In October 2022, it became the first cave on the Swabian Alb to be designated a Geopoint by the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb. The Danube Sinkhole between Immendingen, Möhringen, Tuttlingen and Fridingen also offers changing impressions: in some places, the Danube carries a lot of water; in others, its bed is completely dry or carries only a little water. How the phenomenon appears can vary from day to day.

For hiking, the “Donauversinkung” premium hiking trail runs between Tuttlingen-Möhringen and Immendingen; check the trail conditions before setting out. The final section of the Albsteig passes via Rußberg, Bettelmannskeller and Nonnehöhle near Wurmlingen directly to Tuttlingen. The “Rock- & Roll-Tour” in Tuttlingen-Nendingen is two kilometres long, largely barrier-free and fully wheelchair-accessible. Check local conditions in advance here, too. At Rabenfels in the Bäratal, the climbing areas between the “Mister Wendl” and “Gebrüderweg” routes are open from 1 August to 31 December; check the applicable rules before your visit.

Culture in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination

The cultural sites in the wider Tuttlingen travel destination also each offer a different focus. The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum displays 25 historic buildings that were dismantled at their original locations, moved there and restored to their original condition. The upper floors of the KĂĽnstlerhaus Scharf Eck in Fridingen house a museum about Hans Bucher, the painter of the Danube valley; his life and work are presented across three floors. The Museum Oberes Donautal in Ifflinger Castle presents changing special exhibitions as well as permanent exhibitions on the history of the town and its rulers, archaeology, carnival traditions and more recent history.
