Bad Saulgau offers different ways to explore its history and landscape: the town museum spans the period from the Celts to the post-war years, while circular and themed trails explore water, nature and geological history. When planning your stay, it is worth first deciding whether you would rather focus on a guided tour, a museum visit or time on a longer route. The options vary in subject, length and format.

Water Trails, Geology and Moorland

The themed Water Trail offers an accessible way to explore the waters in and around Bad Saulgau. The route runs along wooden boardwalks and well-maintained paths; nine information panels explain life in and around the water. Here, the focus is on the connection between the trail and knowledge of nature.

The Georundweg takes a different approach: stretching 43 kilometres, it offers opportunities for hiking and cycling, while informative stops provide insights into geological history, how the landscape was formed, local soils, and flora and fauna. The trail starts at Bad Saulgau’s market square. At the first information panel, you’ll find an overview map and a marker to help you get started. Bad Saulgau has numerous car parks and parking garages for visitors to the Georundweg.

Another circular route is located in Braunenweiler, a district of Bad Saulgau. Created in 2024, the Nature and History Trail is about 8.7 kilometres long and largely accessible. Several stops explore nature and history. Compared with the 43-kilometre Georundweg, the Braunenweiler loop is considerably shorter; the two trails also differ in their subject matter.

In the Booser-Musbacher Ried landscape and nature conservation area, five hiking trails, ranging from 2.2 to 5 kilometres, pass through meadows, moors and woodland. The area covers about 343 hectares and has been protected since 1991. Around half of the nature reserve lies within the municipality of Bad Saulgau. The different trail lengths offer a useful guide when choosing a route through the moorland for your stay.

Town History and Guided Tours

The Bad Saulgau Town Museum presents local history from the Celtic period to the post-war years. Documents, exhibits and audiovisual media also illustrate the history and significance of local customs. If you would rather discover the town’s history on a walk, you can choose the classic guided tour of the historic old town. It covers more than 1,200 years of town history.

A family tour of the old town is available for children and adults. Stories, small activities and places to discover bring town history to life in a different way from the museum. St. Markus Monastery and Parish Church is a spiritual place for pilgrims and visitors; its architecture and history inform its description as a place for reflection and religious symbolism.

Nature Theme Park and Practical Information

The Bad Saulgau Nature Theme Park offers ACTIVE tours, CREATIVE tours and specialist guided tours for children, adults and professional audiences. The activities combine learning with active experiences and playful discovery. One tour for adults follows the path of Bad Saulgau’s thermal water from its source, through its use, and back into nature. As the tour programme may change, check in advance whether your preferred guided tour is available during your stay.

The information point in the Nature Theme Park also shares knowledge about local wildlife and plants. Exhibits include a beaver whose fur visitors can touch. When choosing a hotel, it may be helpful to decide first what you want to focus on during your stay: the town museum and old-town tours offer different themes from the nature trails, the Ried or the geological stops.
