Kieselbronn combines fruit culture with a distinctly village character. The town has preserved its rural charm, with attractive houses and plenty of greenery. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around whether Kieselbronn’s sights are the main focus or the wider Enzkreis district also plays a role.
Village Character and St. Stephen’s Church
A walk through Kieselbronn can take in the old fortified church, the old water tower and listed half-timbered houses. The church, tower and houses offer different ways to explore the town’s character.
Today’s St. Stephen’s Church was probably built in the 14th century on the site of an earlier chapel and is considered one of the oldest churches in the Enzkreis district. A broad surrounding wall gives it the character of a fortified church. A late Gothic Pietà dating from around 1500 can be seen in a niche in the choir wall. The church thus brings together a presumed early building history and a work of art from a later period.
Fruit Variety Museum: Regional Focus and Visiting
The Fruit Variety Museum is free to visit and is dedicated to local fruit varieties from the Enzkreis district. The individual varieties are labelled. Guided tours and the distribution of scions are available on request.
The subject also includes southern German fruit varieties selected and propagated for their taste, usefulness, hardiness and ease of care. The focus is therefore not only on flavour, but also on practical uses and care. The labels for the individual varieties and a guided tour on request offer different ways to explore the museum.
Getting There by Bus or Car
Bus route 734 runs from Pforzheim Central Station towards Knittlingen. Depending on your destination in Kieselbronn, several stops may be suitable. Check the timetable before travelling and make sure you know which stop is right for your destination.
By car, you can reach Kieselbronn from the Pforzheim-Nord exit on the A8 via the B294 towards Bretten. The Fruit Variety Museum itself cannot be reached directly by car. You can park about 500 metres beyond Kieselbronn in the direction of Enzberg; from there, a field path leads to the museum on foot. The drive to Kieselbronn and the final stretch to the museum therefore need to be planned separately.
The Enzkreis District in a Wider Context
The Enzkreis district is in the Northern Black Forest region, in the heart of Baden-Württemberg between the metropolitan areas of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe; it surrounds the district-free city of Pforzheim. The district also has a varied landscape: its northwest lies in the Kraichgau, where fields, meadows and vineyards shape the scenery. The Stromberg features wooded hills, gentle valleys and sunny vineyards. In the Heckengäu, juniper heaths and hedges of blackthorn, hawthorn and white hawthorn cross the rugged landscape.
When choosing a holiday apartment, your planned focus is therefore the key consideration: would you mainly like to explore Kieselbronn, including its church and Fruit Variety Museum, or plan your stay around the wider Enzkreis district? Then tailor your search to your specific day trips, and pay particular attention to the best way to get to the museum.
